Plastic cleaner & Anti static polish questions

Post by NitroFrost »

So I was watching this video as I'm getting a station together and wanted some suggestions and at the end of the video he brings up a product called VuPlex to clean the consoles with. https://youtu.be/5x133RY_Pzg?t=2038

So this got me curious on if anyone has used plastic cleaner & anti static polish on their consoles and if they would recommend it and what brand they would recommend. If VuPlex cleans plastics and helps keep dust away that sounds like an amazing product, however if it's doing something negative to the plastic like leaving a poor residue behind I wouldn't really want to use it to polish up my consoles. I've seen people also mention WD40 but I'm assuming they wouldn't really do the anti static part for helping console dust as well as I couldn't find much on if WD40 again is a good idea for the plastic.

Most of this is probably luxury for cleaning the console and plastics since generally a decent soap and tooth brush does the job but this question is really for going a step further. Anyone have any experience in this feel and have any recommendations and thoughts?

After cleaning I spray my consoles with silicon spray and rub it in.
Makes them look awesome and stops dirt sticking.

I'll tell you in 20 years if it stuffs the plastic.

What brand and isn't that leaving like a greasy residue?

Right now I'm using a WD40 brand. Smells awesome.
It leaves a residue but it's blanket, kinda like putting tyre black on your wheels.

Is the residue really smudgy? I've used some stuff before, well not silicone base, but it left such a residue that it almost made something like the n64 look like gloss with smudges. Wasn't great.

The layer it leaves resists finger prints and dust. Not smudgy at all.
