Trouble with N64 ULTRAHDMI and CRT HDTV Sony KD-34XBR970
So I recently aquired a sony kd-34xbr970 for a great deal but a heckova drive, anywho, I was stoked to try out the N64 over HDMI on a CRT for a best of both worlds experience, the TV can take a HDMI at 720p(though not 1080p) and my XBOne display on it when its outputting at 720p but the UltraHDMI N64 doesn't just curious if anyone had any ideas on how to get things working, I probably going to be buying a somekind of 1080p to 1080i converter box so I could play the XBOne on the 970 at a higher resolution so when I do that Ill defintely try routing the N64 HDMI through that into the tv but it would be cool to get it working on the meantime if its possible.

I love that TV for 480p Widescreen content.Roboplodicus wrote:So I recently aquired a sony kd-34xbr970 for a great deal but a heckova drive, anywho, I was stoked to try out the N64 over HDMI on a CRT for a best of both worlds experience, the TV can take a HDMI at 720p(though not 1080p) and my XBOne display on it when its outputting at 720p but the UltraHDMI N64 doesn't just curious if anyone had any ideas on how to get things working, I probably going to be buying a somekind of 1080p to 1080i converter box so I could play the XBOne on the 970 at a higher resolution so when I do that Ill defintely try routing the N64 HDMI through that into the tv but it would be cool to get it working on the meantime if its possible.
The TV is kinda blurry on my WEGA on resolutions above that.
The TV doesnt support 720P (1280 x720) it displays and blurs the horizontal resolution and outputs in 853x720 or 853x768 Standardized HD. It looks pretty good just not for certain details like small text.
If you want to get the highest resolution for that model it would be SVGA 800x600 which would look amazing on half life 2 from a PC connection with an Xbox one wireless controller on your couch.
The 480p widescreen on Wii looks perfect as well. I enjoyed Skyward sword the most on my WEGA.
Also a bonus is the Xbox 360, if you hook it up with a VGA cable has the option to natively output in 848x480 16:9 and would require both a Xbox 360 VGA cable and VGA to HDMI DAC.
Also Battlegrounds PC supports 800x600 but isn't the best for sniping far away targets.

Ok so I tried it in 480p mode and it still isn't working Its really weird because I could have sworn I looked and saw that the UltraHDMI didn't have a 480p output option but your absolutely right it does. I bought this which I was going to buy anyway to play my Xbox One on the 970 with because the Xbox one doesn't support 1080i either https://www.amazon.com/Portta-Component ... B00JVNUAEI HDMI to Component converter box that has the ability to convert from 1080p to 1080i as well and it had free one day shipping. I'll be testing my Xbox One with that as well as the UltraHDMI I'm curious if the UltraHDMI board works with the box we'll see tomorrow I guess.juji82 wrote:http://ultrahdmi.retroactive.be/install ... _start.pdf
It does output 480p
@HoagTech
I really want to try out VGA with my 360 but like you said thats another cable and converter box its tempting..

So the Portta converter box came in, and the UltraHDMI does work with it but the image is pretty unimpressive. Ocarina Zelda definitely looks way better on my standard def 20" sanyo than the HD 34" XBR970 sigh...I think at this point I'll probably just sell the UtraHDMI console and buy a stock N64 and maybe get a PVM seeing as that would be good for playing other consoles on too.

UltraHDMI doesn’t work on any of my HDMI/DVI Trinitrons, and I have several (XBR910, HS420, HS510, etc). Hi-Def NES only works in 640x480 but seems to have the same issue at higher resolutions. Kevtris and MarshallH supposedly ensures compliance with HDMI specs using an HDMI analyzer but obviously something is different from, say, a PS3. PS3 works fine at 1080i or 720p so they definitely support the signal.
