How I convert SCART/RGB (gScart switch) to Component?

Post by sofakng »

Can anybody recommend a SCART to Component converter?

I'd like to connect my RGB consoles (from the gScart Lite switch) to component so I can play on a later generation CRT television.

Your best bet is the ShinyBow SB-2840. It should do 240p, 480i, and 480p.

if you can find the Kramer FC-14, it's amazing.
It needs c-sync but the quality is the best I've seen.

Thanks! I'll have to keep my eyes open for the FC-14 but I don't see any available online (eBay, etc).

I did get two recommendations for the SB-2840 so hopefully it's good quality as well.

all you need is a CSY-2100 scart to component converter. Works great on old crts.

costs about $50-100.

How does the SB-2840 compare to the CSY-2100?

It looks like the SB-2840 is right around $75. (I don't see any CSY-2100s for sale on eBay either) :(

I had gotten a clone of the CSY unit and later upgraded to the Shinybow. The quality on the latter was noticeably higher. I highly recommend it.

I had been wondering how the two stack up to each other. Thanks for your impressions

The FC-14 is extremely rare, and I'm still kicking myself for selling mine. It's the best one I've seen in person.

I never seen one for sale than I asked Bob (retroRGB) and got myself one.
If I find another one, I'll grab it.

The Shinybow is the one to get: Shinybow scart to component

I believe the ebay seller is actually ANI-AV, the only distributor in the US to my knowledge...

Don't bother with the CSY-2100s or their clones, they have internal pots to modify colors and they aren't perfectly set from the factory. Plus they don't have audio passthrough (without a mod)

I would also mention fusionz' Retrotek converter- https://www.ebay.com/itm/SCART-to-Compo ... 1876964053

Haven't used it myself but I've seen people on here recommend it before.

Unlike the Shinybow, Fusions doesn't accept 480P. Also, he turned down Voultars request to put it through proper testing.
