DVDO iScan Duo not working

Post by The Rook »

I just bought a used DVDO iScan Duo on eBay and it arrived Monday. I planned on connecting 2 consoles that use component (PS2 and my CMVS) and all of my HDMI modded consoles to it for convenience. Tried it out for the first time yesterday and I can't seem to get it to work. It has a red light and just says "iScan Duo DVDO" on the front screen. None of the buttons on the front of the device do anything. It didn't come with a remote so I programmed my Logitech Harmony remote for the DVDO iScan Duo and that doesn't seem to do anything either. I connected several devices to multiple HDMI ports and nothing. I found online how to do a factory reset by pressing the power, menu, and exit buttons at the same time for several seconds. That did kick it into factory reset but it just starts the process and then just freezes and says:

Factory default
Please wait...|

Does anyone have any experience with the DVDO iScan Duo or any information that could help? I paid over $200 for it and if I can't get it to work soon, I'm going to have to return it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

VERY likely an issue with the power supply. The iScan Duo uses an internal PSU just like the Edge does, right ? On the Edge these have been failing all over the place, but they're relatively easy to replace.

There is an internal PSU? I received a small power brick and cable.

Is it possible this power supply is not compatible and that is the problem?

I'm using a Duo in my main set-up right now and can confirm it uses an external power supply. The power supply you have there is 2A less than the one I have, that could be the difference. 12V/5A is the proper power supply from what I can tell googling.

If it uses that brick then it doesn't have an internal PSU.

Check the stickers on the unit or somewhere around where the PSU is connected to see if what it says there matches what your PSU says. 12V DC at 3A or less. If you have another 12V adapter that fits you can also try that, just make sure it is centre positive and at least 3A.

Here is what is on the back of the iScan Duo:

The power supply supplied seems to be brand new third party, not the original.

Yeah so your PSU is not delivering enough current to properly power the device. It's not definitely causing your problems, but it's very likely and you should replace it for sure with a 5A PSU.

I don't have a 12V 5A power supply so I'm going to stop at a local electronics store tomorrow. I'll just take the iScan Duo with me and see if they have a power supply.

Hopefully that's all the problem is. The Duo is a nice machine.

The 12V 5A power supply I got from Amazon for the Duo has issues with staying plugged in. If I bump the unit, it can lose power. I'm not sure if there is a better one that makes better contact.

Do you just have a basic power supply like this:

https://www.amazon.com/LEDMO-Power-Supp ... 01461MOGQ/

There is another one that has an additional plug:

I hope it is too. I've been waiting for this device ever since I found out about it a few weeks ago. I've been planning on making it the center piece for all of my retro systems.

I'm just using a generic 12v/5a (made in China) that came with mine and it works fine. It certainly doesn't look original but I didn't buy it new so I can't say for sure.

The second one is the one I got. I definitely would not recommend it with the Duo.

Is the plug too small? Doesn't it come with an adapter for the plug to make it 2.5mm instead of 2.1mm? Is 2.5mm too big? I guess the 2.5mm would probably be even looser than the 2.1mm.

If anyone has any pictures of their working power supply or know where to purchase one that is compatible please let me know.

I found these 3 on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/110V-220V-Conver ... B073QTNF9F

https://www.amazon.com/LEDMO-Power-Supp ... B01461MOGQ

https://www.amazon.com/SUPERNIGHT-TM-10 ... B008FKDK2M

But it seems like the first one might not be the best choice.

Got 2 power supplies from Amazon today and neither of them made any difference. Same behavior, red light with "iScan Duo DVDO" on the front display. Buttons still don't respond.

Guess I'm just gonna return it at this point.

Pretty disappointing, especially since there are no more available on eBay.
