So I got my Asian PS2 (Please read, need help)

Post by steveovig »

None of the supplied power sources will work here in the States. It's an Asian Slimline PS2, if I buy a cheap Mad Catz Power Cord from Best Buy and plug that into the supplied AC Adapter will it work properly? I've noticed that the difference in voltage between the JAP and the NA consoles is only 10 volts. Is connecting this console up with a US power cord safe to use while I buy a power converter online? Thanks.

I have a JPS2, and I just plug it straight into the wall and it seems to work fine...I think the voltage on an Asian PS2 is different than a Japanese one though, can anyone confirm that?

No, people have told me that the voltage between the Japanese and the Asian consoles is comparable. Over at Liksang they said it was shipping with a 110 V AC Adapter but seemed to only come with a 100 V Adapter and a very wide power cord with a 220 V convertor.

Asian PS2 = HK/Taiwan PS2, which is 220v.

MSZ = right though. Unfortunately you will need to get a converter too.

Just a read the descripions for a "Asai" and a "Jp" version ps2 console on P-A for example and it's clear you were misinformed.

I have a Asian and US PS2 sitting right beside each other. I just switch the cables and AC over from one to the other and they both work fine.

Then it's a Japanese and not an Asian PS2 you have.

If I am not mistaken then not all non Japanese countries in Asia have 220V.
Maybe there are other Asian countries having 110v besides Japan!?

Possibly be very confusing. :? :(

Yeah, guess I was kinda stating the obvious...

Thanks for the link, it proves my my memory served me well for once. :D

Guess I should not mention the countries here, as we (as a forum) or I would possibly be banned in China by the government for suggesting Taiwan being on of the other 110V countries in Asia.

Damn now I did mention it after all. :x ;)

Man, I should really start cutting down on the emoticons...

Asian PS2 is supposed to work at 220V AC.

Sony's AC adopter is said to be have a working input voltage of 100V to 230V AC. This is not confimed, but that seems to be what PA and LikSang is suggesting.

I got a US PSone (110V AC), and I plug it's adoptor directly to the wall power socket at home(220V AC), and it works fine. I can confirm you that the PSone adopter works from 110V AC to 220V AC.

It might be the same case for PS2 adoptor too. But I really don't suggest you to try it with your PS2. To verify if it would work, you need a DC voltmeter. You plug only the Asian PS2 adoptor to the 110V power, and measure the output votage with the voltmeter.

If it outputs IIRC 8.5V DC, the adoptor would works for 110V AC.

Otherwise, don't worry, pluging the adoptor to a lower voltage shouldn't demage the adoptor. Even if it would, the adoptor is no use to you if it don't work.

BTW, I got a Asian PS2 and I am pluging it directly to power supply on the wall at home, but this prove nothing...

It's written on the adaptor that it accepts 100-220v, as do most current adaptors... or am I missing something?
