GCHD by Eon
GCHD by Eon
I saw Bob's mention of this product earlier today. One interesting tidbit - in their FAQ on Amazon, there is a question about whether this works with the Panasonic Q. In their answer, they mention that the AV plug portion of the device is "dummy" and only serving to provide additional stability to the device. This would imply that both the video and audio are coming from the digital port.
It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Did they beat Badassconsoles to market like everyone else did? No clue how that guy's going to make back his investment.

This. I ordered almost a year ago and he doesn't respond, and I'd like my money back for the GCVideo I ordered.Bahn Yuki wrote:by not responding to emails or twitter DMs asking for a refund. 100x this. I ordered a GCVideo from him to install for a friend, and the goods never arrived, even a year later. I emailed him and asked for a refund, but got no response so I ended up doing it through PayPal; that got his attention and he gave me my money back. It’s bizarre though as I have ordered from him in the past, one of his MEGADrive units and he delivered on that just fine.mikejmoffitt wrote:This. I cancelled my BAC order ages ago and got a refund. citrus3000psi's solution is much better anyways.bobrocks95 wrote:Did they beat Badassconsoles to market like everyone else did? No clue how that guy's going to make back his investment.

Nice, another clone supplier that seems to read forums but not the code they are using - my forum handle is not listed in any file in my Github repository, but my real name can be found right next to the licensing conditions.
Very unfortunate choice of web host for their site too, for someone from Germany "wixsite.com" sounds like a porn site.

I thought the same when I first heard of this service some time ago but as it turns out it is really popular at least in the states for giving people without any website coding knowledge the ability to create professional looking websites.Unseen wrote:Very unfortunate choice of web host for their site too, for someone from Germany "wixsite.com" sounds like a porn site.

Bob got on their case about not giving you credit. That got their attention and they put your name somewhere on their site or something.Unseen wrote:Nice, another clone supplier that seems to read forums but not the code they are using - my forum handle is not listed in any file in my Github repository, but my real name can be found right next to the licensing conditions.

It's not really about listing my name, but adhering the conditions of the license the code is released under. It's not like those conditions are hard to comply with, it's even less work than for something released under the GPL...
(going by the screenshots on their web site they're not even using the latest version or they removed the logo from the main menu...)

Nick from HDretrovision bought one and it looks like he is going to cover it in the roundtable on Wednesday.
Something about this solution gives me a bad feeling for some reason. I wonder if it is the same person as zeldaxpro's. Unless it is the greatest thing ever I won't likely buy one. I'm more interested in the BAC or citrus3000psi solutions.

Re: GCHD by Eon
My GCHD arrived Friday and I had some time to play with it yesterday. As others have stated, the packaging is great. It's a mini GameCube and feels very polished. The build quality of the unit is also very nice.
The primary complaint I've read has been how snug the unit is when plugged into a GameCube. For me, I didn't experience this problem. It does fit firmly, but I am able to insert it and remove it without any trouble.
Overall, the display quality is very nice. Compared to my official component cables through an OSSC, the visuals are both more clear and more vibrant. I find the component signal to be a bit 'muted' and the colors are somewhat washed out. The GCHD doesn't have this problem for me. I don't have a spare universal remote, so I haven't been able to test the options yet.
My primary complaint is with my display. It's a Vizio P series 4K and it doesn't handling the upscaling to 4K as well as it could. This is a general problem for 480p content. (To be clear, it's very good, but I can tell it isn't pixel perfect. Maybe someday when the OSSC 4K edition is built... )
Unseen: the first batch of orders they had on Amazon are missing a license, but the newer batch comes with your license printed on its own pamphlet.

Good, in that case I have no complaints about them. Although it would be nice if the would use the current firmware version.strygo wrote:Unseen: the first batch of orders they had on Amazon are missing a license, but the newer batch comes with your license printed on its own pamphlet.

I’m still rocking the OG Pluto IIX for my GameCube and Wii. Represent!
Re: GCHD by Eon
I got mine a while ago but haven't had time to try it until today. So basically my tv isn't getting any signal. The led on the gchd lights up so it seems to at least get power from the digital port. I have the original component cables that I use with the OSSC without issues so there is nothing wrong with my gamecube.
Anyone experiencing the same problems?

Potentially it could be outputting 480i and your TV doesn't accept 480i over HDMI? Try enabling progressive-scan on a compatible game blind?reinfallt wrote:I got mine a while ago but haven't had time to try it until today. So basically my tv isn't getting any signal. Re: GCHD by Eon
I'm looking to sell my EON GCHD if anyone it interested (US residents only please). I've only used it a few times to make picture comparison tests, but I don't need it anymore. I paid $150, but willing to take a hit and sell it for $108 (the 8 is to cover shipping). PM me if interested.
Re: GCHD by Eon
It has no problems with 480i or 576i from other sources like the OSSC. I also tried connecting the GCHD via one of the hdmi inputs on the framemeister. The framemeister said it got no signal either.bobrocks95 wrote:Potentially it could be outputting 480i and your TV doesn't accept 480i over HDMI? I forgot to mention I have a PAL gamecube.

By default, the GC-Video starts up in linex2 mode (And Enhanced DVI mode off) to help with compatibility. So it should be outputting a 480p signal by default. Sounds like yours is DOAreinfallt wrote:It has no problems with 480i or 576i from other sources like the OSSC. I also tried connecting the GCHD via one of the hdmi inputs on the framemeister. Re: GCHD by Eon
I got it working. Cleaned the digital port with some isopropanol and made sure I pushed the adapter all the way in. Now it works. I don't know if it was the cleaning or if I hadn't inserted it completely before. I had to push pretty hard for it to get in all the way.
