Re: Graphical glitches with N64RGB mod

Okay so I followed the advice of the guy in the other thread here on the forums regarding N64RGB artifacts. He suggested shortening the ribbon cable, so I did.

The result is great. The pixelation is almost entirely gone except for some diagonal interference that I don't know the cause of. The screen is flickering a bit as well when you look at bright pictures such as the sky in Super mario 64 which I guess has to do with sync considering I'm using composite sync.

Any advice on removing the rest of the interference (the flickering and the diagonal lines) is appreciated but at least the console is playable now as opposed to before!

EDIT: I actually use sync on luma, not composite. My bad.

I kind of just skipped around your videos (sorry), but, that Super Mario 64 distortion right at the start of that second video, at the upper right and lower left of the Mario head, is something I saw on my childhood N64 over S-Video last year, so I'm not convinced that that specific bit of distortion is related to the N64RGB.

I can test again sometime tonight over both S-Video and via UltraHDMI, and I have a backup NS1 model and a funtastic console that I can also test with.

That actually sounds like a very reasonable explanation because I am using a sync on luma cable made for SNES. I would be incredibly thankful if you took the time out of your day to try the s-video on your console. It may very well be just be sync signal from the s-video connection causing my remaining issues. I've read that many PAL N64s have issues with their s-video outputs.

Thank you!

So I booted up Super Mario 64 on my Funtastic console, connected to my TV via composite, and I was seeing the distortion in your second video. Frankly, I think it's a bug in the game, as it seems to be effected by the stars flying around in the background.
