Hello,
Does anyone here know for sure if the XP29 Plus can handle a 24khz signal? Basically I want to know if it can be used as a trisync monitor – 15khz, 24khz, and 31khz.
A good game to test with would be Paperboy with GroovyMame.
Thank you

Re: NEC XP29 Plus – 24khz?
I've read only the original XM29 (XM2950) can do 24khz, yet I've never been able to confirm that. Does anyone have a pdf of the original XM29 owner's manual? That way we can see the spec sheet to at least try to confirm.philexile wrote:Hello,

Re: NEC XP29 Plus – 24khz?
My one had a dip switch on the back for EGA. It could not auto sync to it like it could for other resolutions but it could display it.
I have seen other XM29's without EGA capability. I would check before buying if EGA is a requirement.
I would avoid the XM29 for use as a tri-sync with mame personally. It is very slow to adjust the image with the remote and you need to adjust it every time you switch game. I found it annoying to live with.
More importantly, they don't look very good for 240p content imo. The pitch is too fine so the image looks blocky. But.... to each his own...

Re: NEC XP29 Plus – 24khz?
here the ranges for the NEC Monitors:
XM29: 15.5-50.5KHz (true trisync)
XM29 Plus: 15.75KHz and 31-65KHz
XM29 Xtra: 15.75KHz and 31-70KHz
XP29 Plus: 15.75KHz and 31-95KHz
XP29 Xtra: 15.75KHz and 31-100KHz
I used to have my groovymame with crtemudriver hooked up to my xm29. picture was stunning. no need to manually adjust anything if modelines are set up correctly in crtemudriver.

There is a data jack in the back that you can plug in a remote and it works well on adjusting the picture..also it does not need battery since the wire seems to power the remote.. I am in the minority here but I love how 240p content looks better than the Sony's PVM/BVM lines, one of the reasons, I can see the apenture grill. Some people don't see it but I can.
