It comes up GREEN!

Sony had to disable DVD playback for RGB because RGB does not allow the piggy backing of Macrovision encoding which stops you recording the movies. They did it because they did not want to be sued by the DVD forum.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

You need one of those third party cables with a dvd switch on it.
pushing the switch makes the green signal go back to color!

On my brothers tv NOT He got a widescreen 82 cm Wega for 500 EURO.
when the switch is selected the screen goes to color for one second then blank.

Perhaps they build a security feature in the TV!

So I'd say, only on selected models
Not sure though we have to investigate this matter further.
watched Ace Ventura and when it was over I say the dvd menu of the movie. I say ugly composite rollings.....
NOOOOOOOOOOOO
I've watched composite
NOOOOOOOOOOOO

"Luke, I'm your father"
..... whatever......I watched composite damnit!
NOOOOOOOOOOOO

It also makes the signal go back to being composite. Not exactly what most people would want.

You can also buy the DVD Region X -bootdisc, which not only enables you to play DVDs from all regions on your PS2, it also removes the green.

Macrovision encoding/protection. As pointed out you'd either need a modded PS2 or one of those boot discs.

Word. it's a simple hack, but I can't recal where I read it. I posted a link to a how-to page. Maybe search the forums for "PS2" and "RGB."

Pro Action Replay for the PS2 also has DVD Region X included.

It's not exactly Macrovision, rather the PS2 switching to component by default. I have played my own home video DVD's that don't have CrapOvision in it, and yet it still looks green without the PAR.

It has nothing to do with switching to component automatically. ALL DVD's will look green when played on a PS2 using RGB if you do not use a DVD Region X or similar.

Switch your PS2 to component and your games will look just as green even on RGB. Which works wonders for the Hulk and Matrix games. :P

Forgot about this thread. Anyways, thanks for the feedback -- I'll just watch DVDs on my DVD player then... oh, the irony.

Funny how 99% of all European DVD players output RGB and nobody whines about Macrovision

Is yours an Euro PS2? Maybe that's why. Which answers the above post, because Europe is so far away from Hollywood. No. Really, they bitched and bitched and bitched until they got it their way. Also, Sony had to please their media divisions, by making the PS2 default to component even when you use RGB while playing a DVD. Which begs the question, how in blazes am I going to record a component signal without pro equipment?

Amiga Monitor. RGB connection. Component mode switched on. The colors are really washed out, but it looks like something out of the Matrix:

Can you see the green tint?

Then on RGB.

EDIT: Sorry, Naiera. I just realized I misread your previous post. PS2 will display DVD's in green without PAR. D'oh. But still even if you set the PS2 to RGB, and then load a DVD, it will send component to the monitor.

You don't need professional equipment to record a 480i component signal. There are commonly available capture cards and firewire bridges that will capture it just fine.

It's included in Action Replays now. It's been OOP for a long time.

thanks for the info.

also a question: do you know if the Action Replay disc is compatible with a Jpn. PS2 (original model) ?

I picked up a US ver. DVD Region X from Datel's site around last year, so I guess they would all be gone by now. :/

The latest ver. of Action Replay for PS2 has DVD Region X...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

If you buy the latest version of U.S. version of Action Replay Max dated 2006, it does have the DVD Region X included. So really, there's no need to buy the DVD Region X disc itself when it's already included with the latest version of Action Replay Max. You will need to use the included Action Replay Dongle to unlock the "Remove the Green Tint" during RGB playback of DVDs...it works like a charm on my 30001 model PS2 using Japanese 21-pin RGB cable setup and an XRGB-2 upscan convertor setup.
