I do only want RGBHV and not component. I was afraid that cheap adapters like the Tendak could result in degraded colors or something of the sort, but if that's not an issue then I'll probably go for that.

Replacing the fan on the 41HD sounds interesting, perhaps a last resort.

hey guys,
apologies for resurrecting an old thread but i thought since it's on topic it's better than starting a new one.
I just tried the Tendak HDMI to VGA to hook my PS4 pro to a bvm d24 through an extron 203 (ps4> TEndak > vga in extron 203 > using the extron 203 BNC RGBS out > d24 [i also toggled VCR mode on/off on the d24]) but it doesn't seem to be compatible. the Tendak works perfectly with the ps3 hdmi out using the same method (i can play blu rays with the ps3 over 1080i/720p/480p through the Tendak to the d24) but the ps4 seems to be different and doesn't work.

i tried booting it in safe mode and toggling disabling the hdcp , trying 720p. nothing seems to work.

i also read in this thread it failed as well:

is it possible to connect the ps4 pro to a BVM d24 without using the SDI port? anyone have any success?

Yep, I do it. Looks great. I recommend setting the PS4 to output 1080i, on the D24 it looks way better than 720p, trust me.

I don't use the Tendak though, I use an HDFury3, but that's not cheap. It turns out that the Tendak is not as great as we once thought, for example, unlike many other cheap dongles it's not compatible with the MiSTer's direct video output. Unfortunately your best bet would be to try a bunch of cheap adapters, apparently those with a tail and no power tend to be more compatible. I'd actually try the Porta adapter first. Those have a picture as good as the Tendak, and don't have HDCP issues (though I don't think that's your issue, since even PS3 works).

I just want to chime in and agree the the HDFury X3 (HDF3) has been the best way I've found to connect HDMI consoles to an RGB monitor. The HDF3 has great image quality and no clipping of blacker than black or whiter than white (I had clipping issues with both the Tendak and Portta for YPbPr and RGB Limted sources).

This is how I have my HDMI consoles connected:
- HDMI to HDMI - Automatic HDMI switch (multiple daisy-chained): https://jtechdigital.com/product/5-port ... dr-switch/
- HDMI to HDMI - Extron 101H EDID box for ensuring proper resolution and audio format capability advertisement upstream to devices connected to the HDMI switch: https://www.extron.com/product/edid101h
- HDMI to 2x HDMI: Splitter: https://jtechdigital.com/product/jtd-mini-1x2sp-1286/
--- Video Path
------ HDMI to YPbPr - HDFury X3: https://www.hdfury.com/product/hd-fury-x3/
------ YPbPr to YPbPr - Component switch - gcompsw: http://www.gretrostuff.com/store/gcompsw/
------ YPbPr to RGBS SCART - RetroTINK COMP2RGB: https://www.retrotink.com/product-page/comp2rgb
------ RGBS SCART to RGBS SCART - gscartsw: http://www.gretrostuff.com/store/gscartsw
------ RGBS SCART to RGBS 4x BNC (+ 2x RCA Audio) - Retro Access Custom Cable: https://retro-access.com/collections/custom-cables
--- Audio Path
------ HDMI to AV Receiver for LPCM multichannel audio & Bitstream decoding (no video output).
------ AV Receiver to 5.0 speakers.

hey all, i just got a HDfury 3 (black color) from ebay but edit: didn't come with a power supply.
i looked at a pdf of the HDfury 3 manual:
https://www.hdfury.com/docs/HDfury3manual.pdf

and it says it takes a 5v/1000mA power connector.
i tried using my iphone 5 charger with an output: 5.0V --- 1.0A but a no go...

now i'm searching online but can't find the power supply for it.
does anyone know what power supply can be used for the HDfury3?

update: ok, i reached out to HDfury customer service and they got back to me that it just takes a standard usb mini cable.
i tried several times with my ps3 usb wire. i plugged it in to my laptop and followed these instructions

To enter the bootloader mode in HDfury3:
Press down the RGB L/R shift button and insert the USB cable to enter the bootloader mode. (USB cable connected to computer)

Double click on the Neo Jailbreak executable to launch it, once done:
1. Click Connect
2. Select Firmware file (.HEX from the zip package)
3. Click Download
4. Disconnect and try your freshly updated HDfury3

but nothing. nothing lights up on the Fury nor anything is detected. looks like my unit's DOA and the seller already accepted a return.

bummer....

IIRC the downsides of using SDI are:

1) Sony's HD-SDI input cards add a frame of lag

2) Sony's HD-SDI input cards have loud fans when in use

3) HD-SDI uses chroma supersampling (4:2:2 specifically)

It will probably work fine, apart from those caveats, but you'd be better off with a good DAC of some kind.

Two years later and I thought I should reply when I read about your issue. I was in the process of updating my HD Fury 3 as well.
Here's how you update the firmware:
1. Hold the L/R button on the HD Fury.
2. Connect the USB cable to your laptop/PC. It will then recognice a new hardware boing connected.
3. Open Neo Jailbreak and load the Hexfile and then press download and update the firmware.
4. Quit the firmware and you'r done!
