Get a Seimitsu stick into my Astro City

Post by Sumez »

Got a NAC on its way, and I'm thinking of keeping around an extra control panel for shooters, since I want to keep regular JLFs in the cabinet for all other games.

So I'm probably picking up a cheap worn CP plate from a friend to install a LS-56 stick into. The problem here is that both control panels come with the standard Sanwa mounting plates. I've found a lot of threads (mostly on AO) touching on this subject, but none come around to any really useful conclusions, and images posted are mostly dead at this point, so I'm sort of stumped about how to go about it.

From what I hear, Seimitsu's "VF" type plates should fit right over the Sanwa one allowing me to screw the LS-56 unto the bottom of the mount.

Obviously, that would result in a somewhat shorter shaft on a stick that's already pretty short to begin with, and I'm really not sure how much I'd like that. Of course, there's no way to say when I haven't tried it, but I'm not sure it's a risk worth taking? If there's a simple way I could mod the CP to better fit an LS-56 into it, I'm all ears. As I said, it's a worn CP, and I'm not shy of mutilating it. As far as I can tell (the plate is still in my friend's possesion) the sanwa mount isn't welded either.

Alternatively, I could just settle for an LS-32 stick, mount it the same way, and invest in a shaft extender (which unfortunately doesn't work with LS-56 sticks).
Now, I already have an LS-32 that I use in a custom X360/PS3/PC stick, and I'm actually very happy with it, to an extend where I'd preferably never play shooters with anything less. The control is so much more precise, that I immediately perform better than I would with a JLF. However, from what I hear the LS-56 goes a step even further in that direction, and for this project I kinda don't feel like settling for the second best if I could potentially get the best. But then again, compared to a way too short LS-56, you could probably argue that LS-32 is still "the best".

What do you arcade nerds say? Any personal experiences in this matter? I guess there's a final option of going for an actual Seimitsu control panel, but those are both impossible to find, and ridiculously expensive once they do show up.

Very interested in how this will work out, looking at a similar issue here :)
Currently on JLF's which I love, but would like to try LS56's on my Sanwa panel

Not sure if it'll work, but seimitsu does make an s plate for the ls-56. I've used one to mount an ls-56 into a madcatz te stick.

No first hand experience, but as far as I can tell, the mid section of Seimitsu's S plates are far too wide to fit into a Sanwa mount.
In fact I'm almost certain the bulk of the stick itself is too fat.

I've been looking to put Seimitsu LS-40 sticks in my NNC equipped with a Sanwa panel.

The Seimitsu flat plate for the LS-58 may work on a Sanwa panel. It may need to be cut a little to fit next to the buttons but it should do the trick.

I've not done it yet though.

It's perfectly fine like that.

^Agreed. Use the VF plate and try out a LS-56/58 octo gate while you're at it :D

Another suggestion is to stick with JLF and try the kowal oversized actuator and sanwa 8-way gate. Feeling is similar to the LS-56 but longer lasting sanwa parts.

This is exactly what I was hoping to hear! Might not even have to keep a separate control panel then, as replacing the stick itself is probably no more cumbersome than the entire CP.

I'll check out the kowal actuator as well, thanks for the tip on that. Does it just work as is on a stock JLF stick without the need to replace any other parts?
And what's the lowdown of JLF+kowal+octagonal, how does it compare to either LS-56 or LS-32? I've alway been uneasy of modded sticks.

I have ls-32's in my NAC. Used Kowal adapter plates. Yes, the stick is short, but great for SHMUPS. I tried the Kowal oversize JLF actuator (in a JLF, of course) but it didn't feel right to me. Just don't try to play street fighter with the ls-32's. I have yet to pull off a hadoken.
