*solved* Gundhara PCB - distorted pixels normal?

Post by Dampfwalze »

Edit: @thchardcore: I put the video back to public for you to view so you can check if your problems are the same.

Here are also some more short videos I made back then, but from a former PCB that had issues with the background graphics (notice the white square tiles on the moving platforms for example), but for the screen tearing problem you mentioned they maybe interesting:

****solved****
Seems to be a general problem with the programming of the game. Though, no hardware problem. :D

Hi all,

is there another lucky owner of an original Gundhara PCB and willing to check if the distorted pixels I am experiencing are visible on his PCB too?
Coolest thing to do would be making a video of the attract mode, so I could show it to the guy I bought the board from. :D

I did one myself and because of the lousy YouTube quality I also made a screenshot and marked one of the pixel errors.

Didn't see your original post.
Interesting.
I will check if I have the same kind of distorted pixel with my PCB.

EDIT : Yes, same here.
It's really visible when you are looking for it !

Hi JF :D

Thank you for checking!
Yes, it's a bit annoying when you know what to look for, but since every Gundhara seems to have the same problem I can live with it.

I'm not sure if this is related but I had 3 Gundhara pcbs and all them had a sprite issue in the top left area of the screen when the action got really intense. It looked like the pcb could not keep up with the amount of sprites

I would say it is proven now that the Gundhara PCB has a general problem with displaying sprites. So it's live with it, or play it on MAME since it shows not up there. :x

You are very welcome. :D

By the way, when there will be a MiSTer core in the future, I'm curious if the core will show the same graphic problems.

You mention issues with white squares on some of thr background tiles. Did you end up fixing that issue with that particular board? I am experiencing something similar on mine and wanted to check before I start swapping customs around.

The board with the background tiles problem, I did send it back to get a refund.

Later I bought another board and this had not that problems. So I can't help you other than tell you that the missing background tiles are not normal behaviour.
