Well actually, they are busted up, barebones and janky ports of the PS1 versions.

Which just shows you how badly they messed those up considering how good the PS1 versions are.

I was asking about the X Collection though (since it's listed in the list of 240p PS2 games).

It still suffers from some sound fx issues and the music is streamed but other than that it plays great. The games run in their native resolution but the videos for X3-X6 run in 480i for some reason. One thing to note is every time you get a game over or beat a level you are taken to the memory card save menu which is in 480i. Minor annoyance if using the Framemeister.

Nevermind what I said then. I was speaking about the Anniversary collection

Sounds dreadful, good thing I got the PS1 versions back in 2014.

I would not call this dreadful as it's still the cheapest way to play all 6 games (7 if you count MM B&C) and the emulation is pretty good. Again just like Anniversary Collection the main reason to buy this was because it was the cheapest way to play X3 at the time.

Another update. Added more games to the list and gave it a redesign. It's looking pretty good now. :D

If anyone has any more titles to add, let me know.

Not surprised that some of these compilation games have a bilinear filter. I remember there used to be a time when people considered sharp pixels to be ugly.

My dream mod would be a hack for Gradius IV on PS2 to run in its native 384p (24kHz). I'm sure it can be done, just nobody with the proper knowledge has tried to tackle it.

it really does suck that there arent easier ways to consistently and reliably get 480p and 240p on the PS2. Some of the best games of all time locked to interlace.

I don't have any of my PS2 stuff available to test at all. But if anyone has it, can they test Metal Gear and Metal gear 2 solid snake on MGS3S to see if they run in 480i? To my recollection (it's been a while), they do run in 480i.

I wonder if forcing 240p would work at all.

It's really too bad that the Extron interface "240p trick" doesn't function on all SD crt setups. It's such a cheap fix and works on all PS2 games and looks quite good (providing that the games art align well with the blanked lines), so it's extremely convenient.

In my setup it works great but I've seen a couple people around the board who couldn't get it to work properly

Yes, both Metal Gear games run in 480i. Honestly I prefer the original MSX versions. I'm not a fan of the changes they made to these.

Figured, that's kind of what I remembered. I really enjoyed these versions. I wish someone would hack the Shinkawa portraits into the original game for MG2.

Anyone have any luck finding more 240p games?

What are the changes? Also are these emulations or actual ports?

They are based off the mobile versions which change the characters portraits.

I'm almost certain they are emulation considering they contain the MSX boot sequence.

As for changes

Nice list! I went through my whole PAL PS2 collection a while ago to check which titles had 50/60Hz selectors, and discovered two games that run at 240p which aren't on your list:
  • - Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (PS2 version was a European exclusive, but has a 60Hz option)
    - City Crisis
There's also a few games that have 240p loading screens for some reason, but the gameplay is 480i. Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance is one, but there may be others (not that it matters for this list, just an oddity I came across!)

I did notice that Mortal Kombat DA does first boot up in 240p. Some other PS2 games do this as well but it's so minor it's probably not worth mentioning. It's more of an inconvenience for those still using the Framemeister.

Interesting, that same game on Xbox is 480i/p.

You're thinking of Panzer Dragoon Orta. The Sega Ages release is just a slightly enhanced version of the Saturn original.

EDIT: Whoops I happened to be reading more today and saw that Orta includes the first game as well. I don't see why you'd get the Sega Ages version in that case, unless it runs poorly in Orta.

I played a little on Xbox and it doesn't seem to run any poorlier than it does on Saturn, looks suprisingly nice too (especially considering the age and original resolution).

The Sega Ages release has an arrange mode and a straight port of the Saturn version. Not sure if that arrange mode is in any other release.

Damn, seems that the Rockman Power Battle Fighters disc is 480i too. So I guess it's emulated rather than reprogrammed?

I just tried this game it appears to be 480i not 240p?

EDIT: You need to enter a code at the title screen to unlock "Uniform Processing Mode" (240p), the code is "Up, Triangle, Left, Circle, Down, X, Right, Square".

Digital Foundry took a deep look at all the ports. Pros and cons for each:

I'm probably going to play it on Xbox eventually since it runs smoother and is pretty accurate to the originakl.
