Taito Egret Xiv

I took a really shitty picture at Hey! in Akihabara the other day. It was Sunday, so the staff was in full patrol, hence the crap quality (size, and my thumb in the way). You can still make it out though.

The sign on the top (which you can't see) says Egret Xiv. It's an Egret II cab, with some pretty wicked speakers that are called "flaps". They've even got little black-light looking cathode tubes on them that shimmer w/ the music. They had it jammed loud... almost blew out my ear drums. I played a round of ESPGaluda on it (got to the last boss and choked) and just loved it. Very cool shit... too bad they take up so much space.

Interesting, is ESPGaluda PCB stereo? (jamma pins A10-B11?) Otherwise I do not see the reason for the wide seperated speakers. Also was there sufficient bass response?

I'm guessing that the Xiv is just a 4-way cabinet sound system for Taito arcades. I was just at the Taito arcade in Akihabara last month and I didn't see that. You gotta' love their shooters floor.

I don't have ESPGaluda but it is probably mono just like Ketsui / DOJ.

There wsan't any overbearing bass, but it was generally just "loud as shit". A couple of guys shut their ears as it they went by.

And yeah, Res, the shooter floor is unreal... has been for a while. Not only the quality of games, but the quality of players as well.
