Yes, there's one board which allows for s-video decoding, but I usually recommend to get an s-video to component integrator instead. With a unit like an Entech you get a very good composite comb filter along the way and it's cheaper than the decoder board anyway. I'll check for the decoder board later on and let you know!

Here's your S-Video decoder board for the BVM:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SONY-BKM-24-N-N ... 033wt_1126

requires a s-video to 2x BNC adapter cable though.

degauss x 2 = save
blue only x 2 = reset
hold blue only, then press blue only = restore factory settings
hold blue only, then press degauss = write factory settings (wouldn't recommended that!)

Good news! I picked up my BVM-20F1U today!

Image

I made sure to get an external control module with it, as you suggested in the original post, but interestingly enough my unit has the control elements actually built in, same as my PVMs.

I messed around with it for an hour or so and was able to get my Super Famicom running through SCART -> BNC RGB looking pretty phenomenal. I had a lot more trouble with my NES running through composite. I could definitely use some assistance. Fudoh, perhaps you could share some of your settings with me? Is there a way to save all settings for one input and have a completely different bunch of settings for another?

How many hours does yours have ?

I think the inputs share the same geometry settings, but you have at least four geometry "slots" which you can use for different settings (4:3 over/underscan and 16:9 over/underscan). If you assign different inputs to different channels and use the different geometry slots for them, you should be good.

Since my unit came with the control elements built-in, I ended up with this BKM-10R control module which I have no use for:

If anyone winds up with a monitor in need, I'd be more than happy to give this away for free provided you cover shipping.

Interestingly a UK AV reseller has two 20F1's. One with and one without controller. The one with us £350. However they also have a 2011P (minor difference to my 2010P), and that is going for £450! Ate the analogue ones better than thus range of digital setups?

Maybe the 2011 is better equipped with SDI and such, shile the 20F1 has none of the extension boards ?

Necronopticous, how much noise does your BVM make?

It definitely seems to make a slightly more noticeable amount of noise than my PVM, but after it is on for a couple of minutes and the music from the game starts going I quickly tone it out/forget about it.

Given the possibility of taking a Sony PVM2010QM or a PVM20N5E at the same price, which of both would you take?

Hi everyone,

Those monitors look terrific!!! Just like my new super emotia

Thanks Fudoh for your reccomendation as usual.

Anybody knows where can I pick up one in Europe? The Sony BVM-20F1E or any similar model to use here in Spain?

What would be a reasonable price ($250??)??

Thanks guys!

Sound

Post by Sir Arthur ahf »

Just another question,

If you use those kind of BVM how do you get the sound from older systems like SS, MD or PCE??

Thanks,

A slipshod method of getting audio out of systems is just to use a 2 RCA to female 3.5 mm phono jack adapter to hook up some headphones to the system audio out directly.

The audio level will be a bit on the low side, and you wont be able to adjust it, but it works tolerably enough if you lack the proper hardware on hand, or are on a budget.

Ok so with the help posted here I have successfully used the service menu and saved my new geometry settings.

Now whilst doing this I noticed that the top left hand corner and bottom right corners are not straight (lose a couple of cm of pic in each corner), I have tried using the digital pin cushion settings with a fair bit of success but it is still far from "perfect".

Is this kind of thing to be expected from these monitors or can I irion the flaws out by using the service menu?? Sorry about the dumb question but i am a n00b to these monitors.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated

It's hard to diagnose without seeing an image of what you're describing, but it sounds like you would benefit from an adjustment to the trapezoid.
