Gradius V
My brand new slimline PS2 makes horrible noises every time I play Gradius V. It doesn't do this with the other CD based games I own, like Castle Shikigami 2 and Contra: Shattered Soldier. Is there something I can do about this problem?
Is Gradius killing my PS2? I bought the slimline because my old PS2 could no longer play CD based games.
I've been fighting the temptation to grab myself a Japanese PS2 for some time now. Is Gradius V available on DVD format in Japan, or are Japanese PS2s able to play CD format games without breaking themselves?
Thanks for your time

For me, if my PS2 (not slimline, but fat) makes noises, that means it's WORKING...thank your lucky stars.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to sound louder with CD based games, since it's physically spinning the disc faster. I can't remember exact numbers, but I do know that the PS2 spins DVDs at 2x, whereas to keep up with that, a CD would have to be spinning around 12x.
That's a lot faster, and bound to create some noise...just listen to your PC CD drive when installing a game sometime - mine sounds a bit like a vacuum cleaner

Ah, Vagrant Story... the game single-handedly responsible for killing my first PSone. The amount of constant streaming in that one was unbelievable. I guess GTA San Andreas makes a good PS2 counterpart to it.thchardcore wrote:Play vagrant story with fast loading on, then hear the NOISE!!!
