Audio for an LCD without speakers when using a VGA...

Post by Capt. Takehiko »

Bought a new LCD without speakers when the other one broke, it hasn't arrived yet and I was wondering how you would get audio when using a VGA box. Help?

That's not a requirement. Just buy computer speakers and use the vga box audio output as the input to the speakers. At most you'll have to buy a 2xRCA->1/8th inch jack adapter, which is a few bucks.

word. If you don't want to buy computer speakers, if you have a stereo with a tape player you could get a cassette adaptor(it's like a cassette tape with a headphone wire runnin out of it, just put the tape in a stereo and plug the wire into the vga box/cd player etc) and do that. Not the most practical, but that's what I do :)

They also make cables to go from a computer to a stereo -- buy one of those and use it from your VGA box to your stereo.

I have several consoles hooked up to my LCD monitor, and for those, I first use RCA extension cables, which then go to an RCA to minijack adapter. That then gets plugged into the line in on my computer's audio, which the speakers are then plugged into. Works quite nicely, in fact.
