just got a Amiga 1080 A-1000 monitor for tate!

Post by scrilla4rella »

after many of your guys' recommendations I picked up one of those old Amiga 1080 A 1000 , or something, monitors. Looks like its in good shape and I got it for $65 including shipping.

I am REALLY exitted about having a dedicated tate setup. My first order of buisness is to find out from you hardware heads whats the best video output to go for.

It seems RGB is the best.(Is RGB the same as SCART?) The main system I am concerned with are

Saturn
PS/PS2
dreamcast

is it basically just a matter of getting a cable of Ebay or something or are the RGB hookups kind of obscure.

The RGB hookups are indeed obscure. You will either have to make them yourself, or have somebody make them for you. (AFAIK I'm the only one who does the latter).

Make sure your monitor does support analog RGB, though! Some Commodore monitors only have digitil RGB, and some don't have any RGB support at all. If it's a 1080, you should be safe.

how can i tell the difference between digital and analog rgb ports? I have a 1080 commodore monitor and I was wondering... i have a circular plug in the back labeled rgb (usually the rgb ports i see are all rectangular). thank ya.

How many pins does the port have?

Commodore monitors use a few different types of RGB ports.

upon checking, there are two ports labeled "RGB", both circular

RGB lln. has 6 pin inputs
RGB TTL. has 8 pin inputs

both ports look fairly similar to the a/v out of a model-1 genesis

You're fine, then :) The 6-pin port is for analog RGB.

the monitor that I just won (hasn't come yet) looks like it has 8 or 9 pins. Sucks if analogue RGB will not work. I does look like there is a switch that can changed to analogue and digital. Hopefully that is for the RGB imput. Does that sound right.

i guess i see soon enough. I'm just happy to get a monitor for tate.

I bid on that auction , or watched it.

Yes it works with analog RGB. The reason your monitor has more pins is because they doubled up. If you look to the left you see a switch which says TTL (Digital) and on the other side says Analog. Instead of 2 ports they just used one DB9 with a switch.

Just keep it in analog mode and shoot Matt an email.

I think his email is thematthew.yahoo.ca but I might be wrong.

Go here -

And type "RGBMATT" his feedback is around 802. Contact him via that method. If you see sea shells for sale its because he likes diving and stuff :D

Or he can just click the "PM" button!

My e-mail is "the_matthew@yahoo.ca". PM will also work, though.

And yes, I do sell seashells on Ebay. But only analog shells!

Hehe sorry I swiped it. The shipping just seemed like such a good deal :)

seashells? they must have some nice (realworld) picture quality!

can use the same RGB hookup for PS2 and PS1? I would assume it would work but I have to use two different systems for PS1 and PS2.

thanks

Matt,

Would of suggested a PM if I knew you frequently came here.

Might be coming at you for a 1080 cable myself in the coming months. :D
