Question about CD-based consoles with 1X Speed...
Do these systems last longer due to their slower speed? And, are any of the Duo's 1X?
Last longer, no. Not at the maximum speeds consoles tend to go. The speed itself wouldn't be the reason, anyway.
Scratch CD's less, maybe, depending on the designs of the hub and the plastic on which the CD rests while loading. Vibration and/or the Bernoulli effect somehow override centripetal stabilization.
I've been having fun figuring out which of six PC CD-ROM drives is slowly scratching my media. Only had this problem once with a 1x player, Technics' 1990 attempt at a ½" tall Discman. An SL-XP180? Even the early, cheap 2x portables (2x for skip protection's buffer) worked much better. The Technics player was NOT CHEAP.
