The testing phase has been completed. Things I learned:

Old JAMMA power supplies are about the worst thing you can possibly use to power a linear video amplfier. Lots of switching noise, especially in the absence of a standard load on the 5v rail.

Some old (pre JAMMA) monitors have input stages which aren't entirely linear. A Galaxian monitor needed an extra volt or so to bias the input stage into the linear regeion. Perhaps this is normal for old games with very limited colour palettes...

I have added to the design a power filter and brightness (black level) control to mitigate against any potential problems. The CAD file was sent off to the PCB manufacturer today. Bare boards and a the remaining parts which have yet to arrive should be here in a couple of weeks. In the meantime I'll turn my attention to writing some good instructions...

Apparently its comparable to other adapters. £50+?

Not sure.

How much is the JPAC?

I thought it was about £50-£70. Hence my estimation.

Ah, $59 USD. s8n on the first page estimated $60, viletim agreed that's what he was aiming for.

It's true, the original plan was to price at around AU$80 but the additional parts have increased the price significantly. The BOM has doubled since I started the topic here.

The price will be AU$95 for those living in Australia, AU$110 for the rest of the planet. This is the total price which includes postage and money transfer fees.

No, that's 110 Australian Dolars. I've edited my post to make it clear.

I'll make sure everybody is aware when they become available.

AU$ 110, that's about € 67. OK, it's more than first intended, but I know that more features have been added. :)

However, the price forces me to change my 'order' from two to one. Will wait for order and payment instructions.

Time is not important, quality is and that picture looks like quality to me.

Just a suggestion, but when you sell these boards how are you going to approach your customers?

Is it ok if we have a mod edit the first post with interested parties in order of post number? I know i'm almost the highest if not the highest, but I did get involved right from the get go and i'd like an early unit if possible. Maybe you have 50-60 of these things ready to ship in 2 weeks time and its not going to be an issue, but if it is going to be an issue i'd rather be first than last. But, if I have to take the last one you make, ill still take it

I too am very interested in this project. I'm going to order the parts and build my own as a test on matrix board.

viletim: I looked at your site but couldn't see any mention of licenses. I'm just as guilty with my site, I throw stuff up and don't bother to mention that it's all free as that was the norm back in the day. Anyway, is your design open source? Would you object to me doing my own PCB for it?

I have an NEC XM29 on the way and was just going to build a simple sync stripper but this looks even better. I don't think the XM29 will have problems with video levels but still.

neorichieb1971,

There's no need to worry about missing out. In the highly unlikely event that there's a great frienzied rush to buy them which leaves me sold out in minutes, I can always make some more later. For the moment I'll make 50 pieces and see what happens.

mojo,
I never bothered with licences, far too complicated. I don't particularly care what people do with my designes and, realistically, once it's online I have little control over it anyway.

I will release a circuit diagram and parts list. If you wish, you can build the circuit form that. I don't like to release PCB layouts for a variety of reasons.

From what I understand, the NEC XM29 is standard 75 ohm video monitor... There's no need for a video amplfieir.

I budgetted for these Viletim and am awaiting some sort of confirmation of when these are likely to ship out. I believe early December was your target which has obviously been extended. Can you please let me know how long the delay is likely to be. I think everyone would like to know :)
