I had heard this somewhere; is it true that you can do this?

MVS cartridges, yes.

PCBs, no.

Consolized MVS unit means just that, turning the MVS motherboard into a game console. You'll need a supergun and then you can play either.

I don't see how that could work. Both Jamma PCB's and MVS motherboards have male Jamma connectors expecting a female harness.

What it probably means (what you heard) is that you can use a consolized MVS in a jamma cabinet. Which just means that you can use the MVS motherboard in the way it was origonally intended as well as using it on your TV.

But no, you can't use jamma PCB's on a consolized MVS.. and MVS motherboard will only work if you put a MVS cart in it.

"consolized MVS" isn´t exactly a strictly defined term. There are several ways of consolizing an MVS. Generally, a consolized MVS is nothing but an MVS board together with a Supergun in one case. So the question is whether the case is built in a way that allows you to exchange the MVS board for other PCBs. You would probably have to open the case, and then it depends on things like cable length and such. One could even build a consolized MVS with an additional Jamma cord for PCBs, though I haven´t seen one like that.
The question is whether you need a consolized MVS if you want to play PCBs anyway. For the price people charge for consolizing you could get another PCB, and the MVS+Supergun combination is more flexible, e.g. you can change your MVS motherboard for another one if you discover that you´d like a 6slot instead of a 1slot.

Ah, I see, so it's the combination one! That's the one I heard about.

YOu could always rig a detachable jamma harness to a consolized MVS machine. Have switches to change mode.

Never done it but it's possible...

I have made superguns that look like consoized MVS's also.

That box detaches and can be used with jamma boards.
