UK Customs & VAT For Japanese PS2

Post by freddiebamboo »

Does anyone have any idea how much I will get stung for importing a PS2 out of play-asia?

I'm guessing they are going to hit me with the duty for this even though I haven't been before with games. Do they demand cash when they deliver it to you?

Not sure how much you might get stung but just to give you an example I got charged £19 on a Saturn game that only cost £26!!

The import duty was only about £4, the remainder was Parcelforces 'admin charges', basically their charge for having to pay the import duty when collecting the parcel.

With Parcelforce you have to pay it when the parcel is delivered/when you pick the parcel up from the depot.

However some companies invoice you later (TNT sent me an invoice about 2 weeks after they delivered the item - I thought i'd got away with it too!).

I've imported loads of things though and only been stung twice - both on very small items. I've had a NEO GEO in a massive box and a full CPS2 board in an even bigger box and didn't get stung on either of them, so you may well get away with it.

Take the total cost of the item + shipping, multiply by 4% for duty.
Now multiply the value above by 17.5% for VAT.
Now add £13.50 for the Parcelforce "clearance fee".

Now kick yourself for not buying the £50 one I had up on the trading station for ages ;-) It's sold now, by the way. With Parcelforce, they'll bring it to your door expecting payment. If you're not there or have no money, they'll try next day, or it can be collected from their depot (also after the second day).

My old PS2 is getting a little eccentric these days and so I was going to buy a new one and mod it again, but those new white models are just too damn sexy

I think it will really "tie the room together" in a big lebowski style

crappy matsui 15"

Works on 28" lovely shame it's not my TV.

Do you mean the front loading instead of the PSTwo top loaders? If so, yes. There are two Sakura units however, one is an older PS2 model, and one is almost the same age as the gold and ceramic ones!

Sony made too many PS2 types.

When I was living in the UK 3-4 years ago I had parcelforce, ups, fedex, etc. deliver parcels without asking for customs fees, only to receive invoices a month later.
