Questions on Region Switch Mod [Gamecube]

Post by Badaro »

I heard some people around here got cubes with a region switch, so here's some questions:

- Are there any known side-effects of the mod?
- Are there any games known to not work or have glitches with this mod?
- You need a separate memory card for Jap saves?

I'm interested in some like some games that don't work well with freeloader and I've been considering this mod.

No. It's just a switch that toggles a couple jumpers.

No. The switch effectively converts the unit from NTSC-U to NTSC-J and back on the fly. The games don't know the difference.

Yes.

Thanks a lot. I'll be performing the mod this weekend, and if everything goes smoothly next week I'll be ordering Chaos Field and Mr. Driller. :)

hmmm wouldnt it be easier to buy a freeloader disc? ... or is there a reason why a hardware mod would be better?

Freeloader/Action Replay works just fine, but a hardware mod is more convenient. If you have an entire collection of JPN games, it gets a bit tedious to do a disc swap every time you start a game up.

Freeloader no longer works on new model US Gamecubes which have Digital Video output removed.

Datel already released an updated version that works with DOL-101 units.
