Hi there!

Is there any difference using either of these?

Yes, you will get a perfect image out of the PS1 Digital as the signal has never been made analog. The RAD2X takes the analogized signal from the PS1 and re-digitizes it. RAD2x should be expected to produce a very-high-quality-but-not-perfect image.

The most important thing, though, is that PS1 Digital can directly output a 960p pixel-perfect image inside a 1080p frame. Not even the OSSC can do that, and it is the best way to get perfect visuals from a PS1 to your 1080p or 4K LCD/OLED monitor/TV. I cannot stress enough what a huge deal this feature is.

You can pair the OSSC with the Extron DSC 301 HD to get a 960p image centered in a 1080p frame, but with the PS1 changing resolutions so frequently based on the game, nothing can truly compare to having access to the digital signal.

How much lag does that add?

1 frame, I think.

Thanks a lot, guys.

So, in terms of image quality, there is almost no difference at all. I guess getting a pure digital signal from the start might solve some issues, but don't see it a as something I need.

The windowed 1080p is a very interesting thing, however, since my TV destroys 960p signal even in game mode.

Thank you very much!

Isn't the OSSC's 4X mode basically the same thing?

PS1 Digital has been out of stock for a long while and no ETA on new stock due to the chip shortages, so you might have to choose the RAD2X for now anyway.

Rad2Xs are also on backorder, the website estimates availability in March. I wouldn't in good faith suggest Rad2X cables to anyone unless they plan to literally only use the one console they are buying it for on newer displays... could just get an OSSC for ~$25 USD more on AliExpress and then use so many more consoles/devices

Your 1080p or 4K display if the latter doesn't accept 960p on its own. I'd think most would prefer the screen usage and fewer scaling artifacts from a direct 960p to 2160p scale.

Rad2X is a great solution but it doesn't hold a candle to PS1Digital. With PS1D people talk about image quality but the biggest wow for me is the audio quality. It's simply amazing. All that said, it's expensive, hard to get, and a difficult install. You can get 99% of the way there with a RetroTink5x Pro. RT5x also has some benefits like the 'PVM' and 'Aperture Grill' scanline settings.

The Rad2x handles the 240p/480i resolution switching that's common in PS1 games pretty well but not perfect. The RT5X and the PS1D handle it amazingly. You also get the benefit of using the RT5X on multiple consoles- it's not just for one console which is nice.

If you go with the PS1D and want to use a scaler as well in the future the PixelFX Morph looks to be coming soon-ish (a few months) and accepts HDMI in. Will likely be a spendy device but it should be pretty awesome. Lots of options these days and everyone's needs and desires are slightly different so you'll have to find a solution that fits your use case.
