RQ: Raiden Fighters Boss Timeout

Post by pmp »

I've noticed in some replays players leave the boss alive until it is about to timeout before killing it. Is there some bonus for doing this?

Perhaps to milk some extra score by grazing bullets?

Ya, I took a look at them again and it must be that they are grazing until the very last moment. I thought the miclus sound that happens before a boss suicide was some secret, but I haven't seen anything about it.

It's only for bullet grazing. However, in the RF-series, this is quite a lucrative scoring element and actually worth it.

In top replays, you will also see the player missing some smaller planes during the stages on purpose, in order to generate more bullets to graze. The grazing gives you more points than actually killing the small planes. World record scores take this to an extreme.
