Huh, I wonder why they didn't perform better in this case. :o

Is my perception that Raine does not properly emulate Garegga's slowdown correct?

Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
I've been playing on Raine (haven't made it past stage 4 yet) and I only once noticed slowdown, at the stage 2 flamingos. But I think this is a good thing because Raine has much lower input lag than MAME (decreasing difficulty) so the increased difficulty from lack of slowdown counteracts it and stops me from thinking I'm cheating.captpain wrote:Is my perception that Raine does not properly emulate Garegga's slowdown correct?
Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
Slowdown when you die or bomb doesn't affect the difficulty at all. Only the slowdown produced by too many enemy bullets is important. This one is most notable in stage 6, in particular the part where the three big tanks are driving from the left to the right at the end of the stage. If you rank is high enough there should also be a slowdown at Mad Ball mk2 (stage 5 bossrush).
I can't think of any other places where you have slowdown and this makes it rather unimportant for Garegga.
I've exclusively played the Saturn version (with no slowdown) and I don't think that it's more difficult or anything than the PCB. If you want to go for the world record score, this might be an issue, but otherwise I wouldn't waste too many thoughts on stuff like input lag or slowdown.

Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
The slowdown is indeed not emulated properly. I'm not entirely sure why you'd say that it's not that big of a deal, because the slowdown in Base is very important.
Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
There are only a handful of occasions where you have slowdown (as written before) and these places are not important and can easily be done without any slowdown at all.
Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
Garegga has slowdown in a lot of useful places, Madball 2, the big plane in stage 5, most of stage 6, Glowsquid, especially coupled with certain characters' fire (and some bombs) at high rank. Miyamoto at full power has slowdown throughout most of the game, actually.
Is this absent in the Saturn version? I imagine Glowsquid at high rank would be near impossible without slowdown.

Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
Stage 6 has a bunch of slowdown and no, it's not a trivial thing to pass without slowdown. Sorry, that's completely wrongPlasmo wrote:There are only a handful of occasions where you have slowdown (as written before) and these places are not important and can easily be done without any slowdown at all.
Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
I didn't take high rank into account, because that would imply you'd score very well. I was only talking about low scores up to around 17-18mill maybe.
Big plane aka Slayer: Forgot about that, so that would be another useful slowdown actually.
Glowsquid: No slowdown here if you're not going for a high rank clear.
I don't know anything about Miyamoto, so maybe it's a different story with him.
Slowdown that only lasts like 2 seconds or slowdown that's during a bomb or death (again, as mentioned before already) is not useful at all and thus a very trivial thing.

Where in stage 6 do you mean? The only notable and also useful one is the tank section I mentioned earlier.Stage 6 has a bunch of slowdown and no, it's not a trivial thing to pass without slowdown. Sorry, that's completely wrong

Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
All of stage 6 has slowdown usually. Can you upload a Saturn replay of the stage? I'm curious to see the difference.
Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
There's not a single bit of slowdown in the entire game in the Saturn version.
Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
Stage 6 slows down throughout the stage.
It changes the difficulty a lot. I guess you've gotten used to the Saturn version, because it's pretty different.

Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
I've watched some replays of the Arcade version over and over and couldn't see that much slowdown in stage 6...
I guess it's just me then.

Back to the first page, where this belongs!
Thank you for the hard work on an amazing guide. I would have given up on this game without it. Instead I'm learning to adapt, and push forward to improve my level of skill.
Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
Has anyone a replay-file to use with MAME of a very good complete run? I want to take some screenshots of all boss fights for a little poster project of mine. The ship has to be Gain btw

Here's my replay, though I wouldn't call it very good. At least made it to the end, and it's Gain

Which mame version.
EDIT:
Oh, it's probably your old replay anyway. Too bad...

Here's a small thing I haven't read about anywhere yet:
6th boss - second form:
There are two ways to get to the third form of the boss. Either you
A: Destroy all four turrets or you
B: Weaken the main body
If you let at least one of the small turrets alive and weaken the main body until the boss starts it's third form, you'll be rewarded with an extra 50k.

The second I start worrying about rank/suiciding in Garegga, I start to suck. Normally, I get to the fifth stage easily by purely playing for survival and using bombs to cancel out shrapnel. Strangely enough, this strategy does not work so well in Ibara.
My advice to newbies is play it like any other Cave game.

If you want to have fun and get to stage 5 you'll be fine.
If you ever want to reach stage 6 or even clear the game - worst advice ever.

I've never made it past the fifth stage, so you're right. That probably was bad advice.

I tried again recently but the input delay in mame bothers me too much now ;-(Plasmo wrote:(start playing again!)

Are you using regular Mame, or shoot-em-up Mame? Where is the delay?I tried again recently but the input delay in mame bothers me too much now ;-(

Re: ST: Battle Garegga (17.03.09 - st1-6 updates + links)
I didn't see this mentioned anywhere, so I thought I would post it here. I just got the Taiwan version pcb (Feb 1 96), and in addition to the 2 mil extend, stages 4 and 5 are reversed. Cloud is stage 4 and Plant is stage 5.
Also, excellent work on the strategy guide. You guys are awesome for putting so much effort into it, it really helps garegga n00bs like me get a grip on the game.

Re: ST: Battle Garegga (15.09.10 - st6+7 edits)
Just added a couple of bits from the thread convo that I forgot to add earlier (revised Black Heart2 data, and that scoring snippet for Junkey Monkey). Thanks again, Plasmo.
At some point in the future, I'll go back through the guide and revise the formatting, rewrite parts of it for clarity, and possibly do something about a PDF document template.

Re: ST: Battle Garegga (15.09.10 - st6+7 edits)
I thought this game had 1 loop only but watching KET stream I see he keeps going on a 2nd loop.
what is that?
is that a special version?
I tried to ask but I don't speak japanese.

It is Extended mode with two loops yes, and there's also a Harder mode which is, well... See here for how to access those modes and some other secrets (I think it has been discussed in this thread before too).Aguraki wrote:what is that?

Incidentally, how did KET do on that Extended run if you saw it until the end? I'd be very curious to see a Special mode replay too...
Re: ST: Battle Garegga (15.09.10 - st6+7 edits)
thanx I searched but couldn't find the words associated.
edit:
I guess he finished it.
he's live several times a week and I think you may ask him to play certain characters(well I don't speak japanese but it seems some people asked).
Also how do you make the rank to show?
I must suck at searching, looked here and at world of arcade and nothing.

he was on stage 14 with 3 lives when I had to leave( )Incidentally, how did KET do on that Extended run if you saw it until the end? I'd be very curious to see a Special mode replay too...

Re: ST: Battle Garegga (15.09.10 - st6+7 edits)
He's using GareMAME, a special MAME build that only supports Garegga and allows a lot of nifty HUD options and shortcuts, as well as reduced input lag IIRC.
Also, he understands English rather well, so you could as well ask him directly.

I don't think there's a Special Course in Garegga, or is it? The bossrush was only in Batrider and Bakraid iirc.Aliquantic wrote:I'd be very curious to see a Special mode replay too...
