Now, I just picked this up, and so far so good.
But I have a few questions on scoring.
I searched and read through the Deathsmiles thread - but I can't seem to get anywhere.
What advanrage is lvl 999?
How can I stop the bottom item meter from falling during a boss battle? (is it possible?)
I played all level 3 to get suicide bullets, and played through the Ice and Canyon - died on 5-1
I see these multi-billion scores and want to know your paths and tips.

Rank 999 gets you more points.

Main advice is, just learn what shot types you need to kill which enemies and endeavour to always do that. Learn good spots to recharge. You should typically be going into powerup mode twice per stage in the first six, once you've figured out refilling the counter on bosses (exceptions: A-1 and whatever stage you do first). Also, bounce those crowns.
For the purposes of determining what shot type you killed an enemy with, the game only considers what shot type you were using at the time of the enemy's death. This leads to a nice trick (which is great for staying in powerup mode longer): fire your laser at the enemy, and when your option fire is damaging it and it's almost dead, switch to lock shot. The enemy will die and you won't need to actually fire the lock shot at all. This isn't as hard as it sounds, and is important for high scores.
Other powerful trick is, when you're in powerup mode, option fire produces a constant stream of skulls when it hits. Milk enemies with it as they come on screen to take advantage of their temporary invincibility.
For a reference point, if I enter the forest with 450mil I can leave with 750mil on level 3, 1bil on level 999. More likely I'll end up with 850mil and die so my scoring on the volcano is reduced. Conversely, my 5 bil score is from doing 4 lvl 3 and 2 lvl 2s. There's a guy who scores 8 billion without entering death mode 2.

If you're very good. Specific changes are: milking enemies with option fire in powerup mode creates crown tiaras instead of skulls for 1000-500 counter. Increased bullet count means more crowns from cancel (small effect). Also I think enemies just produce many more crowns.lgb wrote:Rank 999 gets you more points.

It falls slower on level 2 and not at all on level 1. Otherwise, you can't. Typically it's more important to refill the item counter than to kill the boss as quickly as possible, since you can gain back the loss within 20 seconds of the next stage usually. How can I stop the bottom item meter from falling during a boss battle?
