250 EUR off the normal price? What a steal!

I always assumed it was the Gamefreak / Pokemon connection....
My guess would be twofold:

1. More people buy cabs and therefore supply/demand ratio changes
2. eBay increasing their cut of the transaction and driving up the prices ;)

Street Fighter 2 X for Matching Service has been on the rise for a while... although I don't think it's worth $500!

Whoever paid nearly £500 for a used xrgb mini is clearly demented. If you imported a new unit from Japan directly, even with full value declared for import fees and VAT, you wouldn't pay that much.

It's in-house purchasing to drive up perceived value for the future. It's a long term thing.

Fuck Yamatoku.

That particular Street Fighter 2 X Matching Service "bidder" has 57 bids in the last minute on Yamatoku auctions. That's literally 98% of the activity on the account.

eBay knows it's happening, but they make money from all this. Fucking conflict of interest.

Online auctions need a new business model--that encourages the auction service provider to enforce the rules.

Well, I doubt they're the only ones doing it, and if eBay is making money out of them (assuming the auction isn't cancelled behind closed doors) they've got no incentive to clean things up.

While browsing for something else, I happened to notice Robocop vs Terminator (Jpn MD) has somehow managed to quadruple in value in the last 12 months... impressive.

Reminds of the early 2000's when a bunch of morally bankrupt Europeans jacked up the prices of AES cartridges through Neo-Geo.com turining that system into the nightmare it is today.

I bought this game for Y30,000 with real art about ~6 years ago.

edit:

And apparently incomplete SDOJ kits go for $4000 now.

Well, shooting for the moon with a disproportionate BIN price will get him lots of attention I guess. He will settle for much, much less of course. But what gets me is the massive hype he tries to build up with the description.. I mean:
Rare. Ultra Rare... perhaps even rarer... what we believe to be a... UNICORN. This will be the ULTIMATE TROPHY for your Game Cave... the cornerstone for you Video Game Museum... the Game that sets one Hardcore Collector apart from their peers.
Do you own Steel Battalion?
Some will say: Yes.

Do you own it Sealed?
Only a few can answer: Yes.

Do you own it COMPLETE with the Serial Numbered BROWN Outer Shipping Carton?
How many can actually answer: Yes ???
How many will say: What Outer Carton ???

and for the very few that are fortunate to own the carton...

Do you own the COMPLETE Steel Battalion Bundle SEALED in the Outer Shipping Carton?
How many of these even exist? If you buy this listing, you can be one of the few, the very few that can reply YES.

Soon you can say: Yes I own this.
Well played man..
