Nope. And if they do you can rest assured it's day drinking.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

GP:

I can imagine.
These days I am seeing people going around mask-less (I would say a good 10%, counting the individuals I meet outside), and I witnessed at least of couple of tense situations because of this.
And I am currently located in a...special place, I'd say.

On the more facetiuous side...

I'd say that the locals *never* go out drinking on the week-ends, unless the given place has quiet Sunday nights (it does happen, e.g. Sydney).
I've been around quite a bit, and I always lived in cities in which Friday to Sunday night means puny BA students, young workers who recently moved to town, and general riff-raff.
Actually, as a BA student I would go out on Saturdays exclusively for work purposes (long story).

Interesting fact: the waifu is from Seoul and the last time we visited was 2019, November (work purposes for me, great excuse to visit the in-laws for me and her).
Especially in the Gangnam district, Mondays have become "middle and senior management nights": party time for anyone aged 35+ or something, from what I can recall
One Monday we went out and were eating next to a table of senior management people getting wasted because they finished work "early"...i.e. before 9 pm (senior management in S. Korea=9/11/7, basically).

How to be responsible during pandemics (and even beyond those periods): drink & dine Monday to Wednesday!
Chomsky, Buckminster Fuller, Yunus and Glass would have played Battle Garegga, for sure.

Of course, I would never suggest or condone such a thing, but for no particular reason I'll just, y'know, mention it, as any normal, not-shit person might do on a whim, and, y'know, whatever happens happens!
BulletMagnet wrote:But again, no reason for those not-at-all-made-up legions of reasonable conservatives out there to do something so impolite as actually push back against it: I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
EDIT: Been a busy day or two!

When I talk about the right's constant demand for Safe Spaces, this is one example of what I'm talking about.

I'd love to hear one of our resident apologists attempt to reconcile this.

Though perhaps my favorite spasm of the moment, none too surprisingly, goes to Tucker: vaccine passports are akin to discriminating against pregnant women! Why are only people who deliberately refuse vaccination getting fired, and not people who practice precautions but get the virus anyway? Oh, and suddenly I care that some of the people who get fired might even be black!

I've lost track of how many of these "no amount of evidence and logic I gave them" posts I've read now. Jobs lost, families broken up, parents estranged. Because they'd genuinely rather give all that up than the imaginary status they possess from being internet conspiracy geniuses.

Unfortunately, they do have a lot of establishment enablers reinforcing their bananocity.

Case in point:

Florida’s Death Toll Now Exceeds DeSantis’ Margin of Victory

Uplifting factoid of the day:
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis
DeSantis, 42, has quickly emerged as a Republican rising star. He finished second in the Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll in February behind Trump, and some see him as the best positioned heir to the Trump mantle.

If Trump doesn’t run again, “I think he’s the odds-on favorite to be the next president,” Florida Republican Party chair and state Sen. Joe Gruters told NBC News of DeSantis.

The amount of paranoia these people have is something they cherish, I think. This is what I meant when I said that they were identically bankrupt. If only they had some kind of hobby or sone other form of identity that they could cherish instead, they wouldn't need to cling to this garbage one with such desperate destitution.

Many did have other hobbies. Deep State/Chinese Virus/Stolen Election seems to be where all the flat earthers went. At least in my limited exposure - the former friends on social media who used to post about NASA hoaxes and flat earth and Sleeper Agent Hussein Obama all became silent on those topics after The Donald was elected. Their new hobbies: Deep State investigators, wanna-be virologists, and election experts.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Back at work in the office 2 days a week. This started a month ago.
Presently as I type this, all the women on the other side of my cubicle are going on about how they're not get the vaccine. "They can't force me to get something I don't want".
Their next breaths they are into how they all stockpiled toilet paper, wipes, and paper towels. One lady detailing how her and her daughter "hit Sam's Club every other day"... They had a garage filled with mega packs of paper towels and toilet paper.... Hoarding. Meanwhile others went without.
I guess no surprise the same people who were only out for themselves are still just out for themselves.

And I'm supposed to pile in the elevator with these people. I've been finding delays or detours to keep from getting in the elevators with unmasked strangers, but it has been difficult to avoid my direct coworkers, unmasked and unvaccinated as they are.

You know, for one brief month in June I was enjoying my fully vaccinated status and going around unmasked everywhere but small-room businesses.

Now I'm pretty much back to quarantine mode because these goddamn anti-vaxxers have incubated all these new deadlier strains that kill kids.

Years ago I came across a comic or a fanfic, I forget which, in the Aliens universe. The bit I skimmed was about a death cult that worshiped the Xenomorphs, and there was a scene of smiling cultists intentionally leaning over facehugger eggs to give birth to the blessed offspring. At the time I put it aside and rolled my eyes, "No one would ever do something like that!"

But here I am decades later looking at millions of republicans offering up their bodies to be hosts to a deadly parasite, gestating deadlier and deadlier strains within their own lungs, all while insisting on organic food diets.

Great analogy MM.
I too for a brief spell enjoyed my vaccinated status. I went back to wearing a mask out of respect and support for others I see wearing masks, and unfortunately as some sort of virtue signaling and trigger to the other side.
In a Walmart last night I was the only customer I saw wearing a mask. One bearded tattooed militia type stared me down as we passed. Was it in mind or did it really feel like he wanted to kill me - that's not the first time I've gotten that special aggressive stare from that type of guy.
On a previous Walmart visit an unmasked trailer hick type woman with her daughter faked a sneeze as she passed me, then looked over her shoulder to check my reaction.

Something that just came back to me about these coworkers I referenced, they are the same people who abuse antibiotics for the most minor sniffle or runny nose ...calling around to multiple doctors to get more Z-pack (azithromycin).
So worried about being sick that they abuse antibiotics for a cold. But also so sure of themselves that they'll take no precautions for a global pandemic. Brilliant.

The first mini-series by Dark Horse publishing. Years ago, I also commented that it was a great series on some thread or another, and you complained that the plot was a load of non-sense precisely because of this point, so the series was not great (or something like that?).

Not entirely wrong: the plot had quite a few holes, from I can recall (like all those Dark Horse licensed mini-series), but the (massive) world-building aspects and the characterization of the core group of protagonist was impressive...for a comic of the time (1989? 1990? Temple of the Dog were a new group).

I take this post as an official apology, after all these years. Three "Hail Mary", one "Pater Noster" and one "Rando is my CCP saviour" (Not OCP, CCP!) will suffice to redeem your soul.

EDIT:

Second round of testing has started today (Wuhan), has it took one week to test the whole population.
Still 7 cases of Delta in total (out of 11+ million people...), but the whole situation is getting vaguely annoying.

Key point: security personnel seem to have mixed ideas on what they should check, honestly.
If I enter a building, I must scan the building's QR code to get a time stamp, and then I need to do this for each room & floor I walk through (& exit), so I should be fully traceable.

This rule holds for just any place, but apparently most personnel did not receive the memo or did not bother to read.
However, security guards keep asking me for the "health code" (which shows that I am fine, fully vaccinated, negative to the latest tests, etc.), but do not check that I (correctly) get the time stamps (i.e the supplementary information tracing my route, if needed).

I am by no means fluent enough to explain staff that I am doing the right thing (as per city government rules).
So, the last time this happened (...going to my own office), it took me five minutes via automatic translation to simply say: "these are the locations and times of the building I went through, and this is what you should be checking, mr. security person".

Out of sheer frustration when the guard was still looking puzzled, I opened the official webpage explaining the rules and shoving it his nose, telling him "leggi e zitto!" (If I snap, I use the odd Italian remark).
I was about to complain to the administration and get the guy in hot water, but he probably understood my point across anyway.

I imagine that restaurants must be free & very elegant hazmat suits for dining, at this point.

American exceptionalism and freedumb mentality have really contributed to the pandemic. Anti-vaxxers are basically pretending their diehard individualism has no impact on others while contributing directly to the deaths with their wilful ignorance.

Yeah, it was nice for a fleeting moment. San Francisco will mandate proof of vax for indoor activities. Most bars and restaurants are already doing so. Now it's just a official. I went clubbing last weekend and at the indoor venue, it was masks on.

That's only if you mentally allow yourself to be, my man

Until this city goes full retard (and I personally expect it will) I'll keep on keeping on. Between catching the 'vid/coof, getting both my 5G implants, alongside everyone in my family, immediate and extended, my friends, every one of my coworkers (all 5 of them) and their families, and probably the supermajority of my church, I really don't know what more the government expects out of me. Got myself a date with Sheryl Lee in a month's time. 8)

Take an ass pillow. If I still lived there I'd go... I always go when they play Lynch stuff. Last time they cranked the volume up super loud. That movie scares the shit out of me.

FUCK... and she's there. And Dana Ashbrook. I will be in a land far away... can't go. :( LMK how it goes though. Really curious what Shery's thoughts on Carry Page are.

I'm certain she'll be cagey and not answer anything directly (isn't there a new Lynch tv show in production?)... If I am lucky enough to get a question I'll try to make it count.

My soon-to-be brother-in-law moved the date of his bachelor's party to allow me to go. Stand-up guy. He and my sister wanted tickets but by the time they made up their mind they were all sold out. I'll get an autograph for them by way of thanks.

Man, 4K Akira.... That's the night before the wedding; I sadly don't think that'll work for me, either. Come hell or high water this thing is happening since it's been delayed by a year now.

I guess it depends, but my sister had like a 100-degree fever for like a day before she felt better. Otherwise my brother and I felt nothing (our second time 'round with bat flu?). You'll be fine :P

I felt like ass for a few days but it wasn't too bad. It wasn't like a real flu where you're sick for a whole week and there's a wind-up and and cool down.

You might want to arrange for a couple chill days if possible, or just don't plan any yardwork etc.

Just glimpsed an interview with a hospital doctor in Arkansas who was asked how many of his Covid patients he is able to convince to get the vaccine: maybe 20 percent of them, he says, adding that how many actually go through with it after leaving the hospital is anyone's guess.

As some others have posited, if you don't trust what hospitals say when it comes to Covid, logic states that if you get the disease you shouldn't bother going to the hospital.

Also, a reminder to those who thunder that the founding fathers would never have approved of any sort of vaccine mandate; frankly, chances are that if Washington thought like they did we'd still be a colony.

EDIT: One additional item for the religious right.

Stand up bro-in-law! I approve of this marriage (and I generally think it's a waste!) I saw The Thing in 70mm there a couple of years back. Be warned, the deterioration of the film stock (massive shift to red) made it kind of not worth it. I'd rather have seen a properly preserved 35mm print.

I'm tempted to fly in for Akira, tbh. I still can't believe those dip shits released the 4k restore *only* during the pandemic.
