I think the entire HotD series kind of overshadows the rest of Dreamcast and Sega’s light gun games, but especially Confidential Mission. Sure it’s cheesy and over the top, but from a gameplay perspective it’s pretty awesome.
Anyone else ever check this out? I’d be curious to hear your opinion, and maybe your favorite light gun game
Confidential Mission on Dreamcast - anyone else love it?
Re: Confidential Mission on Dreamcast - anyone else love it?
Its a continuation of the Virtua Cop system and that's a good thing. We never got Virtua Cop 3 at home (outside RAM upgrading an original Xbox and using the Chihiro image) so this was he last official home game pardon the Re-Birth/Elite Edition on PS2 to my knowledge (physical releases only).
I have the Interact Starfire and even with that gun it still plays great. If you need to must own any lightgun game on Dreamcast, this is it.
Plus, there is an upgrade kit for the trigger switch mechanism by Bratwurst and I was thinking to get this and try it out myself (he has kits for essentially all major home console lightguns https://www.ebay.ca/sch/magictrashman/m ... 7675.l2562)

I really really like the game (or at least try to), corniness and all, especially playing it in 480p on a CRT BVM when I've been playing SD light gun games for so long, but I still just can't get over the horrible light gun accuracy on the Dreamcast (and before you say it's a problem with my setup or TV like everybody does, I've tried 5x light guns including 2x brand new and the model listed above even, 4x Dreamcast's, 6x different types/formats of games/ISO's, 6x different connection types, ~dozen+ CRT's both 15 and 31hz, 5x different games...and posted MULTIPLE videos showing these issues).
For my favorite light gun games has to be the dual-screen Time Crisis games on PS2. It really is awesome playing with a friend, each on your own TV, very closely emulating the arcade experience (well, besides having to dedicate an entire room to a HUGE double arcade cab lol) - complete with diamondplate reload pedals even!awbacon wrote:https://youtu.be/c5e3t58I46E

Best light gun game on the Dreamcast for me.

No I get it. I mentioned in my video that the accuracy was very dicey. Hands down the GunCon is still #1 as far as accuracy is concerned. Wish everything could just use that gun!Dochartaigh wrote:I really really like the game (or at least try to), corniness and all, especially playing it in 480p on a CRT BVM when I've been playing SD light gun games for so long, but I still just can't get over the horrible light gun accuracy on the Dreamcast (and before you say it's a problem with my setup or TV like everybody does, I've tried 5x light guns including 2x brand new and the model listed above even, 4x Dreamcast's, 6x different types/formats of games/ISO's, 6x different connection types, ~dozen+ CRT's both 15 and 31hz, 5x different games...and posted MULTIPLE videos showing these issues).

It feels a massive step down from Virtua Cop 2 and House of the Dead 2. The character models are very N64-like, while the bosses are fairly straightforward and uninspiring. Could do without that silly "align the cursors" minigame to decide whether you actually win the game or not - it's a pain trying to do this single player dual wielding. Playing with a lightgun in general, this bit does sometimes loses alignment just as you fire, making it a pain in the arse thing that can ruin an otherwise good run. A bit like Ghost Squad's "you have one shot to headshot" boss, it's a bit of a baffling thing to include which only detracts from the experience.
However it really dials up the cheese but is knowing, unlike HOTD2 which is straight-faced, and the spoof outtakes at the credits are fun. As a result it's an absolute blast to play through, with the arramge mode adding extra challenge and replay value.

Lol did you somehow listen to my “Ghost Squad” commentary early or something? Because I specifically mentioned the damn “one shot or you fail” boss
Drives me insane

I find it annoying how Sega's Naomi AC games required calibration before each play, though I did enjoy what I played of Confidential Mission despite this.

I got it when it came out and if I'm honest I was a bit disappointed by it. I'd love to play it again (maybe through an emulator with a Wii dolphin bar..?) as I don't own a dreamcast anymore.
I remember it being fairly short and I really didn't like the final boss, but the gunplay was there that's for sure. I'd rank HotD 2 above it on the Dreamcast, but then again I love HotD, I'd probably put 1 or 4 as my favourite Light gun game.

Yeah, I was hugely let down by it upon release. It looked like the successor to the VC games but to me lacked their punch and fun factor entirely.
I don't recall anymore which Sega team created it, but at the time it was easy to chalk this up to the difference between AM2's work and that of the lower tier.
Favorite lightgun games: TIME CRISIS, Virtua Cop (1 and 3 over 2 by a decent margin), HotD 2/3, Ghost Squad.
