DnD : Shadow Over Mystara

Not sure who else has had the chance to play this one, but when I was doing my series on the CPS 2 it was the first game I wrote down on a piece of paper (well, in my iPhone notes lol) that I wanted to play and talk about.

Outside of shmups and obv fighters, the CPS 2 seemed to be home to so many great Capcom beat em ups. AvP was awesome and is probably way more remembered than Mystara, but I absolutely love the game.

I still need to sell my Saturn compilation now that I have both games on B boards

You can assume any CPS2 cart has been played to death by at least a handful of people in this forum.

I wish these B boards had some internal clock that kept bookkeeping data on hours placed. I'd love to know how many hours these carts have in them

Haha I know nothing about mahjong except my mother plays it with her old lady friends. Maybe I can get her to guest star

I wish they would do a g*d current gen port of these games. I know the licensing is probably hell, but the PS3 era port's display options were pretty jank and the Saturn one is pretty suboptimal with the load times and lack of multitap support.

^ out of curiosity, which PS3 port do you mean? IIRC there were two, one by Western devs and another by Capcom themselves. I never got around to either, but I had/have my sights on the latter. Best alternative to the Saturn port, which I own but never really took seriously on account of those brutal loadtimes... I'm waiting to see how solid state drive replacements pan out, maybe they can be chopped down.

Wish Capcom would pay either M2 or Gotch to get some current-gen stuff going, indeed. That CPS1+2 joystickbox thingy's lineup is so goddamn good, I'd happily buy one and solder in my own stick + buttons if need be. Sounds like it's just FBA in a box though, so god knows how it'll perform.

I mean the Western release by Iron Galaxy. Hadn't realize that Capcom had done their own version as well. It's not completely terrible, but it just doesn't have the fidelity we're accustomed to these days. I hear the PC version is the way to go if you want to play online though. Honestly, this is one of those games that I just bust out the Pi box if I want to play it, but but no way in hell am I doing the button config on that thing for this game with 4 players—a plug and play solution would be really nice.

Thanks - I've been sleeping on the internally-developed Chronicles of Mystara for way too long, but I always heard pretty good things about it. I could've sworn the Iron Galaxy and Capcom versions had different titles, but from a quick check it seems not... that's confusing, but I'm just glad they bothered at all.

EDIT: aha - JP one is Mystara Eiyuu Senki.

Was pleasantly surprised to see AVP on that (sadly not very promising) box. There have been minor licensing miracles in recent years, like City Connection getting Sunsoft's myriad licensed NES/FC soundtracks official release via their "ROM Cassette Disc In" compilation, but I try to keep my expectations near the floor. A Capcom retrospective by M2 akin to SEGA AGES would be miraculous—imagine a port of these games with the quality of Switch Gain Ground or Virtua Racing. I think there are two limiting factors on M2's side though: 1. I doubt they have the bandwidth, and 2. they need to hire someone who can actually write netcode, because Virtua Racing plays like a dog online which is a huge shame.

Weren't M2 responsible for the Capcom Arcade Collection on PS3/360? Would have been nice to see that supported with more DLC packs, because what was there was excellent.

Capcom Arcade Cabinet was not only M2 but AFAIK Gotch Technologies as well, the latter founded by former Rutubo Games members; not as famous as them, but the quality of their work for Hamster's Arcade Archives this gen speaks for itself. I trust them as implicitly as I do M2 at this point. Which means I should get on Capcom Arcade Cabinet just like Mystara Eiyuu Senki! I see Black Dragon and Tatakai no Banka are on there. God, I missed out pretty much that whole generation. Gonna grab a PS3.

I own the Chronicles of Mystara Xbox360 compilation. I'm not particularly good at the game but the quality in the port is apparent. I do have a legitimate complaint though - the difficulty slider in the game doesn't indicate what is equivalent to the arcade defaults. Some ports such as Raiden Fighters Aces set the "normal" difficulty to below the arcade difficulty, presumably so new players who buy it and are unfamiliar with the game's roots don't get blown away and immediately discouraged by the authentic difficulty, but in that case RFA indicates what difficulty setting is equivalent to the arcade default with a note in the selection screen.

Interesting. I haven't played those ports yet but yeah, you would think they would indicate what difficulty level was the "default" on the arcade games for "normal".

I think on the B board the default is level 5? Pretty sure that's what denoted "normal" difficulty

Does the JP Chronicles release have an English-language option?
