Convince Me Not to Get a Wii U
Convince Me Not to Get a Wii U
CIT's comment in the n64 thread and me inquiring about one of these monsters on the FB market today made me wonder about the games on the Wii U worth playing. I'm going to get one for cheap regardless for modding, but what's actually on this doohickey worth playing? I basically never paid attention and then all of a sudden it was gone forever.
Outside of first party stuff, is there anything else worth a hoot? I know folks like Bayonetta 2, but I don't really care. I like Zombie (U), but that's also on PS4 and PC now.
Can U dig it?

Re: Convince Me Not to Get a Wii U
If you look at good exclusives that are not first-party it's really rough man. A lot of the good stuff, like Bayonetta 2, already got ported over to Switch anyway, unfortunately not Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD though, so these are still two good reasons to own a Wii U.
3rd party developed exclusives of note:
Tank! Tank! Tank! - The single exclusive arcade port
Fast Racing Neo - Shin'en developed spiritual successor to F-Zero. It's great!
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Devil's Third - Itagaki's action game that everybody hated but is actually pretty nice imo
Project Zero: Maiden of the Black Water
The Wonderful 101 - Platinum games exclusive
Rodea: The Sky Soldier - Yuji Naka's spiritual successor to Nights. Not that great, but includes the original Wii(!) game which is much better
Star Fox Zero - Also Platinum games. Most people seemed to hate the controls, but I like it.
...aaaaand that's pretty much it.

Honestly I probably wouldn't have ever considered it if it wasn't for the Project Zero title. Pretty slim pickins.

Chronicles, the Wii game is coming to Switch. No word on Chronicles X though.Steamflogger Boss wrote:Xenoblades as well iirc.
Actually Fast Racing Neo is on Switch too, as Fast RMX. Retail version is only on Wii U though (and only PAL).

Re: Convince Me Not to Get a Wii U
i feel like the big attractive title is super mario 3d world, which still doesn't have a porting announcement. a bit weaker than 3d land thanks to the need to compromise the design a bit to accommodate 4 players, but it's still excellent, imho. i really felt like nintendo was on the right track with mario for a while until going back to huge open environments with odyssey, which ruined so much of what they had going. everybody just wants freakishly huge, uninteresting environments these days, i guess.
i also prefer the wii-u version of mario kart 8 simply because you can hold less items at once. great racing game that dials the kart mayhem back enough for it to not dive what it had going on into utter chaos. the switch version sends things right back into nonsense territory. in both of these cases, it feels nintendo caved to fan demand to make their games worse :S

3D World is amazing, I loved every minute of it. Odysseus ended up boring me.
Re: Convince Me Not to Get a Wii U
The Wii U is certainly light on exclusives, but something to consider is that the Wii U versions of Switch-bound titles are significantly cheaper. It's easy to build a large library of high quality first-party titles for next to nothing. Only a few exceptions haven't completely tanked in price yet.
Re: Convince Me Not to Get a Wii U
AFAIK, Pikmin 3 hasn't had a porting announcement yet. I haven't played enough for an opinion on it, though.

Who needs incentive?
Isn't it rad to play on a freak console anymore? Yeah? Since Mom and the Internet said so? Tell Dad to kindly shut up.

Say, is there any non-LE version of that game? All I can find are obscene price tags.CIT wrote: Project Zero: Maiden of the Black Water

The games are indeed cheap. Just got a bunch of games complete for $4 each from Family Video. Some first party big n titles too.

Oh, is the a different game to Fast RMX? I was under the impression that the Switch one was the same game with more shiny and a few new tracks?CIT wrote:Fast Racing Neo - Shin'en developed spiritual successor to F-Zero. It's great!

Yeah, pretty much. The Wii U version got a physical release, that’s why I mentioned it.Marc wrote:Oh, is the a different game to Fast RMX? I was under the impression that the Switch one was the same game with more shiny and a few new tracks?

Limited Edition or digital. Hype or bust. My turtle-like mentality is tingling. Checking Part 2 Wii Edition instead.Wiki wrote:In Europe and Australia, the game was exclusively available as a Limited Edition version at retail, as well as a digital version on the Nintendo eShop. While the retail version contained the complete game, the digital version was offered in a free-to-start manner, in which players could experience the game's prologue and first two chapters for free, after which they are given the choice whether or not to pay for unlocking the remaining ones. In North America, only the digital version was available on the Nintendo eShop, omitting a retail release. This announcement triggered a fan campaign spearheaded by Operation Rainfall to request a physical release for North America.

Re: Convince Me Not to Get a Wii U
Astonishing really, given (deep breath) New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe basically printed money for a solid couple of months at the start of the year. Maybe they're saving it for this coming January but I'm surprised they haven't just chucked out a 3D World port for some quick cash this year, especially with it bizarrely getting a 2D theme in Mario Maker 2.kitten wrote:i feel like the big attractive title is super mario 3d world, which still doesn't have a porting announcement. a bit weaker than 3d land thanks to the need to compromise the design a bit to accommodate 4 players, but it's still excellent, imho. i really felt like nintendo was on the right track with mario for a while until going back to huge open environments with odyssey, which ruined so much of what they had going. everybody just wants freakishly huge, uninteresting environments these days, i guess.

I'm thinking of appropriating my sons to play this. Then again, I've been meaning to play a lot of things and some how have adulted myself into never having the time.CIT wrote:As of now Wuu exclusive.GaijinPunch wrote:Pikmin 3 -- is that on Switch?

Can’t do it, won’t do it, wouldn’t be prudent. Buy a Wii U!

Pikmin 3 is really good, y'all.

Re: Convince Me Not to Get a Wii U
I would be most interested in Star Fox Zero. Those who did not like the controls could be the same folk who had problems with Wii controls of RE4 (perfectly intuitive for me, but I am not everybody) for all I care.
Not that I can see myself buying another console in like 10 years' worth of time, no matter how old (for over a year since moving, I still have yet to unpack some of my already owned systems and introduce them to the new place).
Then again, home console games I CAN see myself playing any time soon happen to be on the original Wii (including GameCube evergreens as well as homebrew-emuated classics, still fresh SMS fan-made games and such). Not nearly done with it, that I am. An SDTV console second only to PS2 in terms of relevance if you've kept a CRT (perhaps on a par with the original Xbox modded, but I wouldn't know).

Do NOT buy a Wii U. You have more important things to spend your money on.
Re: Convince Me Not to Get a Wii U
I regret getting one. Loved the time put on Xenoblade Chronicles X, but that was it. Don't go for it, drauch.

Re: Convince Me Not to Get a Wii U
It might be worth mentioning that there is an excellent and rapidly developing Wii U emulator for Windows called Cemu. It still has issues in quite a few games, but with the way things have been improving it won't be long before it could be recommended as a legitimate alternative to owning the actual hardware.

Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 rule. Super Mario 3D World is good too. I'd go for it.
Re: Convince Me Not to Get a Wii U
I'll just chime in to say that modding the wife's Wii-U has suddenly made the console more interesting.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
