Japan Times: Game not Over
Re: Japan Times: Game not Over
Thanks for sharing! That was a good read, and definitely shows some hope for the future of arcades, at least in Japan. Thought it's become a more corporate thing here in the US, at least with Round 1 locations popping up around the country, arcades have started to make a sort of comeback.
Re: Japan Times: Game not Over
The USA arcade scene had made a comeback too, albeit in different forms. We have arcade bars being pioneered, independent arcades are running with some having hourly or all day pass to play them at unlimited play, plus family entertainment centers. The Round 1 I went has head to head viewlix cabinets with Nessica live, and hosts a collection of games including good arcade classics like Raiden 3 and 4, Crimson Clover, and other shooting game goodness. Let's not forget the unofficial multi game carts that has more, including Neo Geo.FRO wrote:Thanks for sharing! Now if only I can afford one trip to Japan, I would go to Mikado as the last arcade before leaving.

Even by 2008 when I had first hit Mikado, I think his collection of boards would have already appreciated in value quite a bit. Now? Forget about it. Gold mine.

That article made me incredibly nostalgic as I used to be a 10 minute walk away from Mikado . That full-size hydraulic version of Power Drift was a highlight. I regret the times I didn't stop there on my way home because I didn't want to get accosted by the hand-job ladies...
