He-man games
I just ordered a copy of Masters of the Universe on the PS2. Does anyone know of any other He-man games in existence besides the Game Boy advance version?
It seems like they missed an opportunity to makes games of our fav 80's cartoons. But, there is a conspicuous absence of He-man, Thundercats or M.A.S.K games....

There's also an Intellivision version. I have both versions.
Re: He-man games
There are loads of those Mugen and Openbor games out there. The Openbor one looks great as the characters are ripped from the cartoon. A bit of a chore to play though.

Exactly. Definitely no false advertising on the NES. *sweats nervously*BIL wrote:That's why you play Famicom - ULTRA ACTION GUYS on box, ULTRA ACTION GUYS on screen

Also yes what an EXTREMELY MANLY SELECTION. I can feel the hair growing out on my chest.
But for real, I just can't go back past the NES. The games are not fun to me. NES/Fami I could play any day though.

There was a terrible Amiga version too and a Thundercats game but they look very dated now. I don't like going back further than the Genesis / Snes era. I was hoping for something more recent.Herr Schatten wrote:Two, actually. Both are terrible, though.Jeneki wrote:There's a Commodore 64 He-Man game.
Some of those fan-made games look more like it. They did a much better job than the pros. The PS2 might have been a bit too early to make it look good as a 3d game. Sprites seem to capture the cartoon look better somehow.

I'm going to give this one a try. It looks much better than the PS2 version.
I wonder how much programming skill you need to make one of those games. It would be fun to make my own best em up.

They require a certain kind of mindset is all. It's not much different from today's gamers not being able to go back to N64 games.Steamflogger Boss wrote:But for real, I just can't go back past the NES. The games are not fun to me. NES/Fami I could play any day though.
I maintain that Star Raiders on the Atari 800 is still fun to play. Yars' Revenge and the 2600 version of Berzerk are decent, too, in short bursts.

I had a much longer post typed up but I will say I don't think they are all that comparable of situations. I don't even like the N64 too.

I have a perverse fascination with the C64 Masters of the universe platform game, though it's terrible, and I hated the cartoon as a kid.Herr Schatten wrote:Two, actually. Both are terrible, though.Jeneki wrote:There's a Commodore 64 He-Man game.

It's worth trying the trained version with emulator, if you need to experience just how bad the 80's kids had it :v
Re: He-man games
2600 He-Man at least has a cool title screen with the theme music. Intellivision version plays better, though. There's a He-Man platformer with cartoony graphics on mobile platforms, but I'm skeptical because it's a mobile game.
C64 actually had three He-Man games. A text based adventure game, the previously mentioned platform game, and a game based on the movie.

Nice to see some fellow He-Man fans here.
I thought there was supposed to be a 3D adventure game in development a few years back and got cancelled. Does anyone have information on this?

Re: He-man games
I think its been delisted everywhere, but there was a 2D side-scrolling action game for iOS and Android called He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe. It had pretty much all the characters from the original cartoon. Wasn't amazing, but I played it for a while and still have it on an older ipad.

Only options to play this one now if you didn't already get it appears to be not as legal as before, but its still possible.
There is a game you could play right on mobile called He-Man Tappers of Grayskull, but it does not look that great.

Hell yeah He-Man.headlesshobbs wrote:Nice to see some fellow He-Man fans here.
I don't have anything further to recommend here as everything I was aware of has already been mentioned. I did want to add that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sort of spoiled everyone's expectations ever since they came into being, prior to that almost all of the major cartoon franchises of the 80s in the west were neglected or treated as an afterthought when it came to video games... I'm honestly surprised GI Joe got two NES titles, and an arcade game, years after they were really relevant. Transformers got nil if you don't count that horrible Famicom thing.
Thundercats was remade in 2011 or so and there's a repetitive DS game of that.

Re: He-man games
It really bummed me out years ago when the reboot was cancelled and they had a pretty good plot planned for the following season after the Snake Men story was finished. One thing that made me really like it was how it felt like the original mini comics then the old cartoon did and brought back a lot of my interest for it.
Now seeing what hey did to his sister last year, I'm not sure if I've got anything good to comment on it. I just know someone need to take the helm of this franchise and see about getting things back on track.

Eh, it usually goes nowhere so I'll keep it short.WelshMegalodon wrote:I mean, I wouldn't mind hearing you out.Steamflogger Boss wrote:I had a much longer post typed up but I will say I don't think they are all that comparable of situations. I don't even like the N64 too.
The short short version: I think Atari actually has a lot of non-games. Blocks with color where you need the game manual and your imagination. The N64 at least everything is pretty much an actual video game, even if it sucks.
I think gen 2 to 3 was a pretty big jump from a game design perspective. We saw the beginning of genres with the Atari but the Famicom blew everything wide open.
There are a few Atari games that I could pick up and play a version of right now. Breakout, Asteroids, Pac-Man, Yar's Revenge to name some. I had to look up Star Raiders and that would be a no for me.
Of course, I'm older so I really have no idea what most kids would think of the N64.

Re: He-man games
I don't think 2600 fans like the non-games any more than you do, but I don't disagree with your post otherwise. Though I do think that, factoring in Chinese bootleg carts and such for later consoles to even the playing ground (i. e. to factor in the fact that anyone could make games for the 2600), they're more comparable than one might think.
Isn't the Wii always getting crap for the amount of shovelware it has?
As for N64, today's kids regularly forget that games like Dungeons of Daggorath and Total Eclipse existed, so they immediately label it and its contemporaries as the 3D equivalent of Atari, which is just plain stupid.

Fair enough. The Wii does have a ton of garbage. I love the top end but it and the ds for that matter have just absolute mounds of trash. So many times I will see someone recommend an underrated wii game. Then I try it and hate it. While we are here, Skyward Sword suuuucks.
If you have other Atari recs, I'm at least willing to look into them.

Tunnel Runner, Solaris, Fathom, and H. E. R. O are all at least worth a look.
The 2600 version of Ms. Pac-Man makes Pac-Man on the same system look even worse.

I really couldn't care less about He-man but I think I heard Mike Mateo mention a new series coming to Netflix? Maybe a new game will follow.

I agree. It's not the same thing at all. I was a kid in the 80's and I thought the C64 and all of it's games sucked, even then. It took an eternity just to load most games and it was never worth it as the graphics were terrible. Not as bad as the spectrum but not far off. Horrible joysticks too.Steamflogger Boss wrote:I had a much longer post typed up but I will say I don't think they are all that comparable of situations. I don't even like the N64 too.
The Master System, NES and Amiga were the benchmark for the 80's home console graphics. I don't believe the C64 was ever cutting edge. It showed very little progress over the Atari 2600 from the 70's. Remember, the Nes was released only one year after the C64 so they were the same generation which puts it all onto perspective.
I was never an N64 fan either but it's games looked good in their day and it had a decent Mario and Mario Kart game. My 4 year old still plays them on my tablet.

I will add that when I was younger, the N64 was totally badass. The veneer has worn off now. I can still play Mario 64 at any point, and there are a few others as well but probably well under 10 that I would care to revisit.Classicgamer wrote:I agree. It's not the same thing at all. Re: He-man games
That's the same with most early 3d stuff. It was exciting tech at the time as 3d polygon graphics at home was new. BTW, that was not an invite for someone to talk about Star Fox on the Snes.
Like the early sprite based games, the early 3d stuff has aged very poorly. Large Virtua Fighter 1 jaggies is not a good look.
The PS2 / Dreamcast generation was capable of a noticeably more polished look (when played on a CRT monitor). That's what makes the PS2 He Man game so disappointing. In the right hands, it could have been great. The fact that it only had an EU release shows how little anyone cared about the title.
