A movie featuring a heterosexual male in the lead, catering to the interests of heterosexual CIS-gendered males? Somebody must not have been doing their job in Hollywoke.

Are we thinking of the same movie here?Specineff wrote:A movie featuring a heterosexual male in the lead, catering to the interests of heterosexual CIS-gendered males? Somebody must not have been doing their job in Hollywoke.

Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

It was the 80s. It was perfectly acceptable for two men to behave like that and wouldn't be considered gae back then.Mischief Maker wrote:

Gonna play devil's advocate here: this may be the one and only time xxx1993 and I look forward to the same movie. What am I expecting from this? Some cool dog fights, more macho exhibitionism than I can handle, some really heavy schmaltz, and it to be dripping with 80's nostalgia. I'm sure it'll be a one and done* thing, but I don't mind watching something mindless from time to time.

I just hope it does what it's supposed to. Take the Mad Max route, just be a great distraction for a couple of hours. The original is a ridiculous over the top classic, times are different now but fuck that, go full 80's.

Re: Top Gun: Maverick
Well said. This has the ability to be a great popcorn flick. We know Maverick is gonna bang Jennifer Connelly, beat Iceman at volleyball, sing a song in a bar, and ride that fucking motorcycle. As long as they do it w/ some style and don't have too many stupid one liners, I'll be happy. I may go see this with my mom. As a flight attendant she always loved planes, and we played the fuck out of the VHS tape in my house back in the day. Was kinda weird with the love making scenes though, as they were pretty graphic for PG.dan76 wrote:I just hope it does what it's supposed to. Factoid: consensus seems to be the desert scenes were filmed in Black Rock Desert.

WARNING: CENSORSHIP DETECTED (already?!)
In the original movie, Maverick's jacket had a patch with the flags of Japan and Taiwan. In the new movie, he still has that jacket, but the flags were changed.
Obvious reason: one of its producers is Tencent, a Chinese company with strong ties to the commie government.

Into the trash it goes.

Oh please, you're not gonna let a little bit of censorship stop you, are you?

Well with tencent involved it's given there will be propaganda under the surface. Honestly no different than the "subtle" tactics Hollywood uses but just something to keep in mind who is in control of any given movie.

If you're going to boycott films b/c they pander to Chinese money (btw, that's not censorship) then you won't see much of anything with a large budget.

On Entertainment Tonight during the 2019 SDCC (San Diego Comic Con) event, it was revealed that the entire Top Gun: Maverick film was shot in 6K format. Quite impressive aerial footage indeed. I'm sure it'd be quite something to view on an Imax screen set up.

To me, it's been THE definitive action movie involving flying and shooting things in the sky.

Re: Top Gun: Maverick
That's a really hard question, as I'm not sure what would fall under "action". Aliens, Die Hard, The Matrix, Terminator 2... those are all favorites. But I haven't seen them in so long, I can't really say. Is Akira an action movie? lol... I absolutely love it to death.xxx1993 wrote:What's your favorite aviation action movie, then? I'm talking about action movies that have flying around in a fighter jet and dogfights as the main plot. Like Firefox, Blue Thunder, Iron Eagle, Fire Birds, Independence Day, Flyboys, Red Tails, for example...

Tora!, Midway, and Pearl Harbor.evil_ash_xero wrote:Gosh, I can't really think of any of the top of my head.xxx1993 wrote:I'm talking about action movies that have flying around in a fighter jet and dogfights as the main plot.
