The Thunder Force developers split into two halves of good and evil, the good Tecnosoft and the evil Technosoft, along with the rights of their games. Because trying to span a copyright lawsuit would involve both halves trying to cooperate, it is unlikely too see any kind of response from them in this regard.

Tecno Soft is long gone. Sega owns the rights to Thunder Force now.

I have the sneaking suspicion that lawsuit wouldn't go well. Phrase is pretty generic and I don't think they ever tried to trademark it.

Yes Tecnosoft.

Here is your chance. I know they'll find the best lawyer.

After they win the lawsuit, i predict that there will be

Thunder Force 7
a Herzog Zwei movie
Hyperduel clothing line
Blastwind cologne
Nekketsu Oyako cereal

Why do people forget that Herzog Zwei is a sequel? The original Herzog is on MSX.

There was an unrelated game by the same name on the C64. So yeah, it's a long shot.

I honestly don't know if it's a reliable source, but there's a "TM" thing on the American TF2 box :P

Could it be that it's "Thunder Force II" what is trademarked and not just "Thunder Force"? You know, just like how it happened with the Gunsmoke TV series and Capcom's Gun.Smoke game?

I'm not anything even close to a lawyer but I wanna say that since there's likely little chance of confusion between a videogame about spaceships and a film about non-spaceships then a trademark infringement suit probably wouldn't go so well.

e: just wait til the tie-in phone game comes out then the lawsuits will fly lol

Not sure what your point is here. Herzog is a series, not a single franchise named "Herzog Zwei". My point is that Herzog MSX is treated like it doesn't exist. One website claimed that Herzog Zwei was the first RTS (still a dubious claim even taking the first one into account), despite the fact that Technosoft had made a previous Herzog with similar gameplay.

Werner Herzog's Thunder Force Herzog, but not Zwei, starring Melissa McCarthy™.

Yes.

Oh BrianC, can't you see?

Look what happened when they didn't attach the "II" to the Street Fighter movie?

A title so general may have inadvertently alienated an otherwise eager fanbase. Nobody wanted to plunk down their hard earned money to see Retsu and Lee.

Little did these people know that their favorite characters from SFII where actually in the film. You gotta go with the most popular incarnation.

I know tecnosoft is going to be swimming in yen soon, but it's still business at the end of the day.

Also, this could revitalize Werner Herzog's career.

My point is I have no idea what in this thread prompted you to make a fuss about Herzog Zwei being a sequel. Most everyone here (I'd imagine) knows it is.
We don't want a Herzog movie. We asked for a Herzog Zwei movie. Sorry that bothered you.

sorry about that. I know you were joking about the movie, I was more riled up that one article that claimed that Herzog Zwei was the first RTS and my OCD went wild.

No sweat, I thought at first maybe you skimmed over our post and misunderstood.
Herzog Zwei had a mystique in how the storyline wasn't presented throughout the game and then the ending sequence just laid it on you, and that mystique was doubled by the fact that you could play as the good or bad guy. In light of andsuchisdeath's post I think it'd be a trip to see a fleshed out movie just about the events in Herzog Zwei.
idk, does Herzog 1 present much of a story?

I'm not sure. I do know that Herzog 1 has some of the same tunes. I wasn't out to prove that Herzog is the better game (in fact, it's more simplistic than 2 with levels that only scroll vertically). I only played a little bit of it. I do like the sequel quite a bit, however, though I haven't yet beaten it. I also like that the JP cart of Herzog Zwei is mostly in English.
