Perhaps it won't be exactly the same, but it's good to know it won't disappear at all.
RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE(?) Toys R Us may be coming back.

Time will tell how much it actually resembles the "real" Toys 'R Us. The building that housed my local one is still vacant except for temporary pop-up shops. I wonder how many former stores will actually reopen?
I got a final happy memory at that store - waited in line for the SNES Classic, succeeded in getting one and had a pretty rowdy time with a good group of random people. It was sad when the closing was finalized, but that day made for a good personal sendoff.

mmm, but Atari had a kickass arcade development division back in the day. Was there anything really special about Toys 'R Us?GaijinPunch wrote:Toys 'R Us is gonna be the next Atari at best.
I only have one notably positive memory of the place, and that's when I first played Mario 64.

I was actually just referring to it being a shadow of it's former self.BryanM wrote:mmm, but Atari had a kickass arcade development division back in the day. Was there anything really special about Toys 'R Us?GaijinPunch wrote:Toys 'R Us is gonna be the next Atari at best.

Buuuuuut....
If you grew up in the late 70's / early 80's, going to Toys 'R Us was like crack. Was it ground breaking? Fuck if I know but I loved going there. I assume they did wield quite a bit of power at one time, as if they didn't carry your toy it was not going to be your golden ticket.

Toys 'R Us Japan is still alive and well. Mostly cause so many Japanese are still rather ignorant of Internet shopping and are happy to pay the inflated as hell prices.

I blame NTT for that. It's a long story from a jaded 90's Japanese internet user.SuperDeadite wrote:Toys 'R Us Japan is still alive and well. Mostly cause so many Japanese are still rather ignorant of Internet shopping and are happy to pay the inflated as hell prices.
Another head scratcher is Tower Records. TBH I'm shocked that Hulu and Netflix actually pulled it off.
