This really belongs just as well in the Atari Box thread, but I refuse to be the only poster in that thread. (C'mon guys, come laugh at the new Ouya/The Phantom it is good for the soul.)

Craziest pipedream of pipedreams for Atari fans:

Atari makes a system on a chip hybrid portable console like the Neo Geo Gold. Sell it for 50 to 80 bucks. Except! There's this crazy thing called new exclusive games on it.

Madness I know. Stick with me.

These elusive "new games" would be retro affairs, something put together by very barebones teams like games back then were made.

Investing into franchises and trying to carve out a unique niche. Insane ideas only dumb nerds would ever think to do. Not these genius money vampires who don't even know what the thing they're making can do.

The newest game in the Shining franchise? Shining Resonance Refrain. (It's a port! YAY!) Here's a screen shot!

According to Wikipedia, the artist on the series is one "Tony Taka". A porno artist. The blonde elf girl in this screenshot is basically a copy paste of a character from the Fault! sequel/expansion pack/or whatever.

So yeah.
Not to mention that one girl in the picture wears cleavage dress armor.
Empty quoting this due to page break and how important it is that we never stop talking about Shining Force.

I always have this vain hope that Nintendo will make 3D remakes of the Earthbound franchise. I know it's stupid and will never happen but every E3 I watch and wonder "will this be the year?" It won't. It will never be the year.

Pipe dream: They finish the 64 version of Mother 3 for N64 Mini & then Square makes a playable game out of the Final Fantasy demo. The roms are extracted immediately & work fine on an Everdrive.

I would like to see a thing like Mount&Blade but with giant mechs. Needs some more stuff going on in the game world though, like some fleshed-out NPCs and quests. Alternatively, procedurally-generated stuff might be cool too. Also needs some exploration/crafting/building. The game should run on Windows 2000 (or FreeDOS) and use 4:3 screen. k? thx, bye.

Sega to get the license for Ferrari and remaster Outrun 2 for PS4. Better yet, make Outrun 3, but don't change anything about the handling.

Sega port all their lightgun games to VR.

Star Wars Battle Pod to come to VR or any fucking thing - with extra levels.

Nintendo to make a new F-Zero without any dumb control method - or remaster GX.

Nintendo to make a proper Zelda game.

Capcom to actually finish RE2 remake and it not suck.

Capcom to remake RE4. Keep everything the same, but update the graphics and remix the enemies. Make that castle old, dark and spooky.

Capcom to actually make a new RE game with zombies.

For Star Wars Battlefront to cripple EA and put them out of business.

Kinda curious what specific characteristics you're looking for here; I can only guess concerning your preferences, but my first thought on reading this was "Link Between Worlds?"

A sequel to Ecco the Dolphin: The Tides of Time.

A port of all the Shining Force III scenarios for Steam, translated, since I've only played the first Scenario back in 2002 and I remember as one of the best games I've played.

Tomonobu Itagaki, Katsunori Ehara, and Hiroaki Matsui get an infinite budget to make a new ninja action game. It's the only way Ninja Gaiden II can be topped.

I'd also like a proper Steel Battalion sequel.

Something new by Ueda.
Some sort of 4k Outrun game that is half sim half arcadey.
A Power drift in 4k, with multi seat/screen setup for the arcade (or bowling alleys these days)
A Space Harrier VR 4k game.

To make my own game, which is reminiscent of Super Monkey ball. Except its an adventure with a storyline and requires lots of platforms, methodological thinking to solve puzzles. It has a slow power up system. The power up system would evolve the game into a shmup of sorts.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Ueda is making something, at least. He said in an interview that he wants to reveal his next project "as soon as possible."

There's a new Sonic Mania style sequel every 2-3 years. Sega finally nail 3D Sonic in a game that features only pre-Sonic Adventure characters, does away with all Sonic canon besides classic Sonic stuff. Cancels all comics, cartoons, etc - recalls & burns any material unrelated to classic Sonic. Hires a PMC to track down all Sonic fans who upload weird pornographic fan art & murders them, shuts down & deletes the entire internet just to be sure. Produces a Sonic for Saturn just to make up for having never gotten one. No one ever mentions the last 20 years ever again.
