Han Solo Teh Movie

Thoughts?

I'm wondering why young Solo "wants to make a difference", but I'm assuming that's him playing a ruse to get his way with women, wine and song.

Seriously, if this movie isn't about misogyny, womanising and marginalising Lando Calrissian by stealing his shit, then it's not going to be true to the source material at all.

Can anyone look at that trailer and say "Boy that looks like it's gonna be great"? What the hell were they thinking?

SW today has pretty much reached superhero movie quality, which means: wait for BR release, pirate it, skip all scenes but the ones with great CGI.

Well, that is the core of the matter.

The attempted neutering of Han Solo has been going on for over twenty years, beginning with Lucas own social re-engineering.
In 2018, with Disney owning Star Wars (Christ! It's still hard to accept), who really believes that we are going to get a film about a "scoundrel"?

I'm starting to believe the only reason Disney bought SW was because it was a franchise that wasn't milked enough. Not because they thought they could bring much to the table. The "spur" type movies like "Rogue" have the potential to work because they have little to work with and a blank canvas is always a good thing. Parts VII VIII IV are a continuation which makes it harder to reignite a story which was supposed to have finished in VI.

With Disney making all these movies I feel I'm getting drunk on piss poor wine. This "Solo" trailer effort showed very little to get excited about. Disney knows just putting a title out there will generate mass hysteria anyway.

Looking at IMDB -

Last hope - 8.6
ESB - 8.8
ROTJ - 8.3

TPM - 6.5
AOTC - 6.6
ROTS - 7.6

So far there is clearly a winning trilogy.

TFA - 8.0
TLJ - 7.5

Rogue one - 7.8

Based on the fact that SW fans are SW fans and most of them are biased, knock a 1.5 off everything made in 1999> and your probably on the right wave length.

A trainwreck like Rogue One getting anything higher than 3/10 is just evidence of franchise bias and confused fans. Not of a good movie. :P

I'd say people like you and me are just out of touch these days. Whilst the movie didn't do anything for me (because of the comedy shooting and the comedy fighting and the fact that even the death star couldn't do direct hits), people actually like it. They actually like a thin plot, non sensical win wins all over the place. Lets face it, the empire in that movie was so strong even attempting calling Darth Vadar a pansy from 300 light years a way would be risky talk. Yet Disney seem hell bent on making the whole empire look like complete baffoons. A much more telling story would be that the rebels were cornered, they some how escaped and the plans were there for the taking along the way. At least the SW tension of IV would have been kept. As it stands its the weakest of the most recent 3 by some margin, yet carries a high IMDB score which isn't good as Disney will regurgitate that feel in Solo. I certainly don't want that.

It's not so much the movie "not doing anything for me", it's all the horribly structuring that makes it come less across like a movie.

You can say whatever you want about TLJ, but at least is has a proper 3 act movie structure, a functional plot and a decent build up of intensity. Rogue One is just all over the place, and doesn't care if you care about the characters. But apparently the IMDB score seems to be proportional to the number of AT-STs [repeat in Rich Evans voice] on screen.

Full trailer: https://youtu.be/dNW0B0HsvVs

It's going to be good, a bit of light hearted fun after the drone of TLJ.

It's like Woody Allen's film Celebrity. If you can get over Kenneth Branagh playing Woody Allen it's one of his best films.

Alden Ehrenreich has got to somehow own it and from the trailer he at least seems to be doing more than an impersonation of Harrison Ford. Also, this should have some proper Chewey action.

Well, Memorial Day is a day that is set aside to honor American war veterans. and folks in the Armed services. So on that day, there are parades and whatnot to honor the fallen, the dead and those whom are still with us. Many cities even put up American Flags on that day in honor/rememberance as well.

I would rather see Lord & Miller's original version of "Solo" before the Ron Howard bland-i-fication.

Oh agreed absolutely. Rogue One is quite easily the worst Star Wars movie ever, it's a total bag of shit in pretty much every way possible.

Sorry Richie, there is no way to be out of touch with quality. What we're witnessing is the continual demise of the human race into fucktardedness - that's why Rogue One has a decent IMDB rating and plenty of fans. Hell, praise for dogshit and damning of the decent is pretty much 60% of what goes on as a matter of course these days. And I say that having just watched Arrival.

Friendly reminder that we have had no less than three books fleshing out Han's backstory and another three about him and Chewie having random adventures. No one will believe me when I say this, but they're actually some of the better Expanded Universe books.

There was a third trilogy released in between these, which concerned him revisiting Corellia with the wife and kids, but I don't think anyone likes those.

I sat through the entirety of the Holiday Special once just to see what all the fuss was about. It does at least have some cheese factor ("Whip, stir, whip, stir, whip, whip, stir...") but the nonstop "rawrr rwrwraugh grwwr augwaghrr rrwaah" in the opening act alone is enough to drive you nuts.

And Mermeia. I mean, what the actual...

Sorry sorry, that statement excluding the prequels. There are many times I genuinely forget they exist. Although... damn, it's hard to be absolutely certain with Rogue One. The prequels didn't make me almost fall asleep, and technically speaking their cardboard cutout characters still had more personality than the RO squad, so it's a matter that deserves serious deliberation.

Rogue one is worse than ay of the prequel movies. Can't say how it stacks up against Holiday Special though, but I'm guessing they are somewhat similar.

There's definitely a case there, agreed. RO could possibly trump the prequels in certain terms, but not others. It's a complex comparison, because you can isolate parts of RO that would be superior to the prequels, but the whole as it was presented was so dull, badly written, jarring, lifeless, idiotic, miscast and ultimately pointless it's hard to determine a winner.

Honestly I don't care about this one at all. I'll see it if someone else in my house wants to and there's nothing else good coming out, but I really won't care if I miss it.
