Playstation VR.

Post by Super Laydock »

Just about 2 weeks away from launch and no topic I can find about it on here.

Anyone else excited?
It´s got the games and most feedback from people who tried it is very positive, so expectations for me are high. :)

Got the system pre-ordered and literally counting days now.
Got Vr worlds, Until Dawn and REZ infinity paid for already and waiting for reviews on RiGGS and BattleZone before ordering.

What are your thoughts about it? :?:

THUMPER is almost enough to convince me, but not quite. The idea of a VR device as a console-specific add-on is a really tough sell for me. If I jumped on the VR train at this particular moment, I'd go for a Vive.

They really, really need to have a finished, working, original game ready at launch. If Playstation brand follows Rift and Vive in halfass greed-rush launches without shining software, I don't think VR is gonna get another chance for another 30 years.

Rez Infinite looks like the only thing worth a shit on the Playstation VR official site.

ok, but trying to find them with the shitty search function isn't as straightforward as it could be. :(
Believe me I tried.

hmm, that wasn't on my radar. Certainly seems like somthing I need to keep an eye on though. :)
And though the Vive is defenitely technically superior it is way too expensive as an entry in the VR worlds.
That and it has little to no focus on an own game library.

Just let people try it themselves.
I played VR in the arcades in the 90's and was blown away by it even then (with the shitty blocky graphix and stuff).
To experience is to love it in this case.
Oh and tell them DOA Extreme 3 is getting VR dlc too. :P

Which says more about your acquired taste than the actual diverse and promising line up.

Battlezone looks to be great fun, Riggs if being executed well could be an awesome title too.
I ordered VR worlds just because it offers different genre VR games in one package (and the London Heist looks fun),
Until Dawn seems like a perfect fit for VR (not too expensive too so that helps).
Robinson the journey at least looks real good. Golemn certainly looks good too.
And Driveclub is being reported as being very good on PS VR, so that's promising if you like your racing fix.
And with about 50 games teased before the end of 2016 (we all know this isn't going to happen but still) it should have enough on offer for everyone.

Concept is interesting for a console peripheral, but my main concern is the performance. Anything less than 60fps equates to nauseating VR. Also, Sony doesn't exactly have the best track record when it comes to supporting accessories or secondary products in any meaningful kind of way (*cough* PS VITA/PS TV).

Ace Combat 7 is literally the only thing worth getting VR for. Too bad there hasn't been any new info since last year's PS Experience. However, new info is coming soon according to Kono.

I'm liable to think this will be just another failed gimmick like the PS Move, PS Vita, and PSTV to be abandoned soon after release.

I'm interested in VR for sim-racing games, but only slightly. I can see being able to look around in a virtual cockpit being cool....but at the same time I've spent a great deal of money on my wheel/pedals/shifter/seat/etc. and not being able to physically see them would take away from the experience a little bit.

Reading this article may help to convince you a bit more.

Don't have experience with all shifters and other peripherals but the seat, wheel and pedals could certainly be used and don't need to be seen to be used I guess...
But I can only imagine as I've never used these to play driving games. And there's (dare I say, I know of the downsides) always the option of no shift and using automatic... :|

Eh I'm sure it currently has no base beyond a niche. What game is made objectively better by strapping the tv onto your face?

Video and audio are the easy parts. It's how you make the realistic tactile sensation of boobies, the primary selling point of alternate reality, that's the hard part. That's the part that sells.

People wanna go full Sword Art Online. Not there yet.

Frankly, "enhanced" reality like pokemon go has more appeal. Enhanced-R VR Doom, where you literally walk and run around a maze and shoot demons? Ok, I'm 32% interested. All it takes as overhead is a giant maze complex. Everyone has one of those right?

(Guess that's an idea to "bring back arcades".)

(Think of how many polygons they could use on monsters if they didn't have to render most of the terrain.)

Most sim-racers have their rigs setup for what you can think of as augmented reality. We always disable the onscreen hands/wheel, and setup the camera FOV so that the TV/monitor is like looking out the window of the car...complete with the wheel and our hands in the way of the screen that lineup with the on-screen dashboard. Some people (I would if I could afford it) take it a step further by building a dashboard with switches, buttons, real gauges, LCD displays, etc......using VR takes all that stuff away from us.

I'm interested in head-tracking capabilities with VR, and feeling like I'm sitting in the cockpit and having a full view of everything without using triple monitors. That aspect of it looks fantastic!....but there's pluses and minuses on both sides of the fence with VR sim-racing.

Why for f's sake do you need to explain to others what you do?
If you like it (and it's legal...) than do it and enjoy yourself! :)

The only world he knows couldn't be more virtual already anyway, no need for a device in his case.

On-topic; I'm really anticipating to at least give it a try, because of my very uneven eyesight (unfixable) I've never been able to fully enjoy stereoscopic 3D, if the display's right before my eyes though things might be different.

I have the PS4 and PSVR, both won from Taco Bell, but haven't opened either, yet. Gave VR a chance on test at Best Buy, and came away somewhat impressed, but still not sure I wouldn't rather sell the whole thing. I'm still of two minds about it.

Any cool killer app PS VR titles worth getting? I do know of the PS4 Rez game that does support it indeed from the get-go (alongside with PS4 racing titles of Wipeout Omega & Gran Turismo Sport with PS VR support as well).

See that Gamestop has a cool PS VR bundled set deal here today (6/18/2018) for a mere $249.99 USD: https://www.gamestop.com/ps4/accessorie ... dle/155881 Note that it's the revised 2nd-gen PS VR bundled set and not the 1st gen PS VR headset from the October of 2016 debut release.

And are the internal VR screens OLED or LCD based within the PS VR headset (in regards to version 1 & version 2 PS VR headsets)? I read that on amazon's site that the 2nd-gen PS VR headset can be hooked up to anything that outputs via HDMI (i.e. XBox 360, Xbox One, Switch, etc.) to do double-duty as another device to play your favorite games on.
