Ellen's fetish of collecting million dollar watches reminds me of the role canes used to have. A wrist collar really is the money dump of choice for incredibly stupid evil people. Much more useless than canes were. Let's review the more valuable holes to throw your money down if your IQ is over 50:

SPPPPAAAAACEEEE - Jeff Bezos famously said that he has so much money, this is the only thing he could throw it at to possibly absorb any of it. His venture, Blue Origin, has only performed test flights so far and is overwhelmingly overshadowed by the accomplishments of SpaceX. It's easy to assume this is nothing more than a vanity project for Jeff, no different than Ellen's watches. Except the money thrown into the hole is 1,000 times more. A classic moment was when Jeff "welcomed" Musk to the reusable booster club after SpaceX's first successful landing during a commercial mission. When all Blue Origin has accomplished was a landing after a suborbital flight, something SpaceX accomplished about a dozen times, years before Blue Origin was formed.

CURE AGING - What kind of evil emperor wants to hand over his empire and sex dungeon to his soft, dimply, weezing grandson? Isn't it much better to rule with an iron fist, forever? Investment into this field has progressed, as it's moved slightly from being viewed as a fringe crank idea. Human trials for potential treatments for some of the factors of aging would do that. Still, the amount of money thrown at this thing is absolutely paltry in relative terms. Just one of Ellen's watches would be a measurable drop in the bucket. Jeff has bought into it through the company Unity Biotechnology, but, well, obviously not nearly as much as his personal future space rollercoaster.

AI/GRAPHENE - Google among others are already hard at work racing to be the first ones to create the machine god, thereby conquering the planet. You can't beat them or catch up as a lone billionaire, so, might as well buy that 8 million dollar cane.

BE A SUPER-DOUCHE - Yeah, making hospitals name themselves after you is pretty smug and icky. You know what's even better than that? USELESS MONUMENTS. Just buy up huge tracts of land, wall it off to the plebs, and slap a giant statue of yourself or your pets in there. As people sit for hours locked in traffic during their commute, forced to stare at a line of yourself in various douchey poses - they'll be incapable of escaping how bleak and hopeless their reality truly is. A million dollar watch lasts two months before hitting the garbage can. A million dollar monument to narcissism? That can last hundreds of years.

But seriously, the only thing worse than Ellen inheriting Oprah's fiefdom is the idea of the woman never retiring.

Ocasio-Cortez dings 'predominantly white' areas for hurricanes that killed minorities
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez put a racial spin Wednesday on climate change and hurricanes, attributing emissions from “predominantly white” corporations and communities for juicing recent storms that cost “predominantly black and brown lives” in Louisiana and Puerto Rico.

Even as House Republicans argued that cheap electricity from fossil fuels has helped lift more than a billion people out of poverty around the world, the New York Democrat asked a witness about whether “the Global South and communities of color” bear the brunt of climate “havoc.”

“[T]he people that are producing climate change, the folks that are responsible for the largest amount of emissions, or communities, or corporations, they tend to be predominantly white, correct?” she asked at a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on civil rights and civil liberties.
...
“My own grandfather died in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria,” said Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, referring to the 2017 Puerto Rico storm that ultimately left about 3,000 dead. “We can’t act as though the inertia and history of colonization doesn’t play a role in this.”
Climate change is the perfect foundation for anti-white politics and politicians, with limitless potential for narrative crafting. White people killed Cortez's grandfather with a Volvo-induced hurricane.

Similar claim: Study finds a race gap in air pollution — whites largely cause it; blacks and Hispanics breathe it
The formula scientists used in their study is driven by disparities in the amount of goods and services that groups consume and in the exposure to the resulting pollution.

“On average, whites tend to consume more than minorities. It’s because of wealth,” Hill said.
So, Scientists discover creative new way of saying 'whites have (too much) and spend more money'. Others would like to have and spend more (and consequently pollute more) and politicians like Cortez would like to promise victims of the Global South more, but there is often the business of having to earn it first. And, as always, there is an absent party in this racial narrative.
For this study, the category "non-Hispanic whites" also includes Asian-Americans and Native Americans.
Oh wait, no... they just used data that includes Asians with whites but still made the narrative 'white people gave your great grandmother lung cancer and your child asthma'.

Ah, yes. Reminds me of those years when we'd have medicare replaced from day one with something totally amazing, the UK was going to reclaim itself, and a big, beautiful wall to deter all those brown-skinned rapist criminals, that Mexico was TOTALLY going to pay for, was going to be built. Good times, good times.

It's just funny to me that they went to not knowing when they were going to have an election, to having one before our pre-election even begins.

Blizzcon's tomorrow. If they don't have a middleman for questions, there will be some dramady. Though ultimately amounting to nothing, worst case is they get extra sales from ridiculous derfs like this guy.

So!

Gawker media was sued into oblivion for publishing a sex tape of Hulk Hogan without his permission.

I take it all the conservatives here think Redstate should be liable for similar damages for publishing nude photos of Katie Hill without her permission.

Oho! I have been following this too, MM-san. Strictly for jurisprudential interest, mind! I am not into NAZI POON. Image Over in Rugballshire, this would certainly seem to invite the wrath of revenge porn statutes, depending on the precise features of the case (who leaked what now?) Failing that, if she takes the DAIRY MAIRU to court and a breach of privacy is established, will they plead public interest - arguing congresswoman Hill's MILFy ways jeopardised the nuclear launch codes, or at least the office McNuggets budget? Image

It seems a marginally more contentious case than the wanton airing of a washed-up Hulkster's saggy brown balls and tiredly pumping man-ass (again viewed strictly for professional interest, IM STRAIGHT I SWEAR  ). I would feel *slightly* more confident representing the Daily Beano than those rape porn peddlers at Gawker, though not overly so!

Weekly updates:

Some state elections. Lee got reelected. GOP holds onto Mississippi, loses the other two. Corporate interests still continue to retain control of everything.

Bill Gates goes on record as saying he'll vote for Trump over Elizabeth Warren. Liz being Liz, has reached out for a private conversation to reassure the man his taxes will not be going up even 0.000001% under her. [1] It's possible he doesn't want fake empty rhetoric getting out there and giving people ideas, or it could just be a farce for the show.

Jeff Bezos swatted away his arch nemesis Sawant for a few years.

Kamala Harris has a great plan to prolong the school day another 2 hours so that children will never be able to know what it's like to be free.

Occasionally I forget that Chelsea Manning is still in gulag.

[1] A good politician would have just @'ed at him with a photograph of him and Epstein being chummy together. The photograph taken after Epstein was convicted of his activities.

Funny how the most ardent supporters of the president have been very quiet now that there's talk of improper presidential conduct, in contrast with their passionate rhetoric before the election. Yes, I know it may fizzle out, but let's call a spade a spade. Care to chime in on that, Rancor and Greg?

In other totally fake and made-up news, the lady who was promptly fired from her job for flipping off Trump's motorcade, ran for and won the position of District Supervisor in Loudoun County, VA.

Not necessarily! She's closing the gap with mail-in ballots and those tend to swing progressive.

But even bigger news, Lula da Silva just walked free from prison!

Chalk up one more for Glenn Greenwald. No wonder that chud journalist attacked him on air. I hope he doesn't get assassinated by Bolsonaro's cartel buddies.

That they dumped over two million dollars into this tiny ass race and only got at most +5 points from it, well, it's a small comfort that the influence of money is waning a bit.

No pliz this is a safe space no soul-killing spray pliz

I'm drenched in his ads already. What do they say? Same thing they always say. "Vote for me because I'm me. And it's all about me. Me me me me me." Policy? Movements? No. Me. And be scared of those guys. Those guys scary. Why? Policy? No. Scary scary scary. But only about 10% is spent on that. Mostly, just look at this likable smiling mug. "You can't let that happen to -> me <-!" 50 million dollars on this ad buy.

It's noisy kryptonite against their allies the "social" liberals who don't bother having any goals or messaging. The Washington Generals are by far more ridiculous by any objective measure. If a guy comes into your house, shits on your dog, punches your kids, calls your wife a whore, steals your shit - a normal person does not thank them for it and invite them back the next day.

Another coup in Bolivia. Same reason as every other one: to keep capital in the hands of the few instead of the many. God forbid the Bolivians see any profit from their lithium reserves, right.. The bot farms and media spin on this one are massive, as always. As ridiculous as North Korean news letting you know that Kim Jong Un has never once pooped.

Two more clowns are jumping in the clown car. Guess there's room for them now that clowns identical to them jumped out. Guess even Warren's lies about her support of a moderate billionaire wealth tax on the 600 people who run our empire, are too much for them to accept. The most incredible part is how you can literally pick a random person off the street, and they'd be more electable than Bloomberg or Patrick. You've got to be the biggest liar in the world to not be able to acknowledge that the democratic party is intentionally engineered top-down to lose elections.

You don't have to tell me that isn't really Trump. (And if it had been, he screwed the pooch by showing up alone instead of bringing a small army of intelligent allies.) But if I had to choose to believe in a fantasy, I'd much rather go with this one than whatever the DNC/media/CIA is peddling. The latter, AFAICT would have to be something like a cross between Mad Max and Water World where the only thing people have left is their devotion to using the correct pronouns.
Another coup in Bolivia.
Someone should ring the dude from Stratfor and ask him if Maidan is still "the most blatant coup in history."

As I mentioned a page or several ago, it still cracks me up that the whistleblower reporting their concerns via established channels and the Dems proceeding from there as is laid out in the law (I really hope nobody has to explain what a pathetic bitch-fest the whole "let us in!" indignation is) are totally Deep State, while - even outside of the alleged crime itself - Trump, Barr et al moving the conversations to a non-designated server, using back channels to attempt to keep the complaint from ever seeing daylight, refusing to allow their people to testify, threatening the careers of anyone who does, and literally arguing in court that Trump could shoot someone in the street and not be subject to a criminal investigation is 100 percent Founding Fathers-approved legit. I'd love to see the right's reaction if anyone not on their team was accused of - let alone openly and proudly admitted to - any one of those.

Or, for that matter, that sucking off the mega-rich and their corporations to the extent this administration has done (how many departed officials are lobbyists now, despite the "pledge" that they'd at least hold off for a couple of years...hell, how many lobbyists and executives were hired straight on to the administration to begin with, again?) could in a million years be interpreted as draining the swamp.

I admit I don't know what the hotdog is supposed to mean, if anything. Other than that, the only real problem with that cartoon is that the tanker truck is really a limo and Donnie only got out so he could ask for directions to the golf course.

Yeah, Garrison is a lovestruck schoolgirl diseased by blind hero worship. Trump is "good but powerless". Just like Hillary and Obama are respectively to their stans.

Obama doesn't seem to have much of a problem with anything Trump has been doing, but has been complaining an awful lot lately about a leftist not taking enough money from banks and other interests. Even Warren's empty posturing is too much for the man, as it's too much for the donors.

It's surreal seeing Peter Daou clapbacking against the man. This was the same man who fought, willing to die for Mother back in 2016.

Bulletmagnet mentioning "established channels" for "whistleblowers" triggered memories of Abu Ghraib. We knew what was going on there for over a year from monitoring humanitarian groups, but it wasn't until 60 Minutes published the tamest of the photographs on TV that anything happened. Which was that the administration blizzardesquely said they were sorry, threw a few low level goons just following orders in prison for a few years, and promoted everyone actually responsible.

what should really make you vomit blood is this thought:

Man, I almost skipped tonight's debate because the previous ones have been so dreadful, but this debate was lit!

Holy shit, actual questions of substance! I mean they all had a massive right-wing slant to them but the king was able to springboard off them.

I am so glad Klobuchar has turned her cruelty powers on Mayor Pete, thereby rendering Tulsi Gabbard obsolete.

I am happy to see Mayor Pete and Liz Warren going on a campaign of mutually assured destruction over billionaire fundraising from which only Bernie is safe.

I am happy Tom Steyer was on stage so I always had opportunities to safely go to the bathroom.

I am genuinely worried about the caliber of consultants working on Warren's campaign that she kept going back to the goddamn selfies like that proves something. "This'll appeal to the youth demo!" AND THEN BIDEN TRIED TO GET IN ON THE SELFIES TOO!

And wow did Bernie shine when he wasn't drowning in a sea of 0.5% support losers so he can get beyond the elevator pitch. He's the only candidate on that stage that I'm confident could beat Trump.
