...aaaand "Progressive Queen" Tulsi Gabbard's doing the fucking Crowder show.

This woman wants to be a Fox News anchor so bad!

If the Republican party fails to grow the collective spine needed to convict Trump and, for once in his damn life, hold him accountable for his actions, what does it mean for the future of the country? Can the USA admit to being in the grip of a party turned political cult and reckon with that?

They are absolutely going to pass the buck and let state-level democrats be the bad guys who do away with Trump. The potential Georgia election interference charges carry a minimum 3 year jail sentence.

Expected nothing, was still disappointed.

There should be public post-office indictment votes for literally every public office. But that would require government that actually represents the will of the people, rather than two hand puppets on a capitalist's arms putting on a show.

Slight correction: they control 2 of 3 branches of government right now.

Er...they don't have 67 senate seats. That's the only way they could have had control over the situation. Unless 16 republicans flipped it was impossible, and they absolutely weren't gonna. A survey yesterday showed 74% of republican voters want their cult leader to stay the head of the party. Republican senators are freaked out about their voter base turning on them & getting primaried or shot, probably in that order.

Fun fact: the Republican party didn't even bother with an issue platform at the 2020 RNC.

Funner fact: absolutely nobody but the left(ish) wing commentariat noticed or cared.

Cable News has done to my dad what they said video games was going to do to me.
QAnonCasualties is pretty popular today.

I've been thinking about the Ender's Game series a little bit, recently. For those who aren't familiar with this series: Ender is the special chosen one who's forced to use horrible horrible murdery violence against his will and we're supposed to feel bad for him. This is standard a standard sells technique, making sure consumers feel-good about the exciting but horrific violence; the "you're good and special, your enemies are cartoonish monsters, and you're completely justified in using violence to destroy them" trope is standard from the bible, to star wars, to copaganda, to QAnon. Humans constantly replace reality with fiction.

Anyway, the most ridiculous thing in the series... isn't the faster than light communication, nor Space Hitler resurrecting the Space Bugs he xenocided on a planet full of Space Aborigines... It's the time in the Bean spinoff series where Bean and Ender's sister change and influence public policy by shitposting on the internet. Seriously. They don't have a botnet spamming propaganda or anything like that, they just make posts on the internet. Like, "logical" arguments you'd see on LessWrong, and they somehow have massive influence.

It's just like how people feel like they're in the middle of a holy war, but all they're doing is posting. And posting only has one purpose: postin' makes you feel good.

You should post that insight somewhere on shmups.system11.org, I bet those guys could somehow connect that to what they talk about on that site too.

Wait, so Rick Perry is full of shit?

In all seriousness, that sucks. I still have plenty of family and friends in Texas but thus far none have gotten fucked too bad. My mom has had numerous people over who were not so lucky.

In other pending apocalypse news, 30% of Republicans still view QAnon favourably. Incidentally, they’ve moved into the “Hitler was probably the good guy all along” phase of the continuing cultural death-spiral into fascism:

Oregon, for me actually. In a suburb close to Portland.

And as luck would have it, we just got power back about 2 hours ago. Feels good to have rejoined the modern world. =)

This is actually something I've been wondering about, especially as someone not on social media; now that Trump has both left office and thrown the Capitol rioters under the bus to save his own skin, what is "Q" even saying these days? What's supposed to happen now? Does he claim to still be embedded within the government under the new administration? Is #thestorm still on schedule? I mean, people are still following the account, apparently, so it must be saying something, even after all that's transpired...personally I'm waiting for somebody to figure out his true identity and sue his ass, forcing him to go Full Limbaugh (and Jones, and Trump, and...) and claim that everything he posted was obviously for entertainment purposes only.

Oof. I know most of these guys are just fascists (they'd be Bernie bros or something, otherwise) and this is nothing new, but it does remind me of how important trust is for a figure of authority. You know all that anti-marijuana grooming? Having society lie to kids about marijuana primed them to not trust what was said about other drugs like meth.

It's frustrating when you see the fash get a lot of basic high level concepts correct (Wars are almost always done as conquest to expand our empire of capital. Elites take sexual advantage of the lower classes, etc) but completely bumble into the Star Wars mentality there's gotta be some kind of "good" guy with some strength and power to change things, or else there is no hope and doomerism is the only rational philosophy. "Our capitalists are good, your capitalists are bad." Pure copium.

Being pumped full of so much bullshit all of our lives has ruined us.

oof. As librarian of internet, you can't... you can't just ask such questions. Now I have to go do research on something I had no interest in, and if I wasn't flagged for death already by Blue and Red MAGA, I sure am gonna be now...

..... .... ... um, it seems like this is too much to research in one day. Especially with the recent crackdown by capital breaking up their public spaces and spamming the search results with articles vaguely about Q. Gonna need some time before my book report is ready.

The depth of the lore is uh, interesting. The most horrifying thing so far: the original poster on 4chan was possibly just goofing around with morons, and uh, things got a little too successful.

The idea of a unified canon of "stuff I generally like" is always really popular - things like Stephen King's Dark Tower series, superhero crossovers, the unified anime-verse often seen in abridged series, etc. ... it bothers me these guys are doing the same thing from the early Persona games, where every urban legend was literally true.

Except I guess they'd be on the side of the guys who're trying to bring Hitler back to life by implanting his brain into a giant killer robot..
