Got into Massive Attack and Portishead a whiles back. More recently I started searching a bunch of different terms on spotify: trip hop, downtempo, chillout, ambient.

I don't know the difference between each but many artists appear under multiple genre labels. I know what I like though - Slow, dark, bassy and bluesy. Female vocals are always a plus.

So far in my limited experience I would say Bonobo and Phaeleh stand out the most as artists I would like to hear more of.

I'm slightly familiar with Bonobo, and I liked what I heard.

I bought one of Portishead's albums a while back off a friend's description expecting it to be right up my alley, but I didn't particularly care for the vocalist's voice.

As far as ambient goes, I've been listening to a lot of that myself. 'Pop' by Gas hasn't left my phone's mp3 collection since I purchased it. it's not exactly the same as other stuff labeled "chillout," tho.

Got back into Killing Joke. They are still very good, I would like to see them live again.

Kaito - Until The End of Time. Tech House and Deep House from a very good artist. Emotional like most of his other albums.

Discovered this band a few days ago. It's sort of proggy post-hardcore similar to Coheed and Cambria or The Mars Volta.

If Cosmic Explorer were the only track on here, it would still be my favorite album of 2016. One of the best songs Nakata's ever written. The whole thing is great, tho.

Been listening to Wovenhand's 'Refractory Obdurate.'. Picked it up because I heard some members of Planes Mistaken For Stars played on there. Was expecting a Christian folk album, got a rock album that good on so many levels that I really don't care what they're singing about. Absolutely fantastic stuff - check out the track Hiss on Deathwish Records website. Sounds like the horsemen of the apocalypse fronted by a mad preacher.

Off of Fallujah's new album Dreamless which will come out by the end of the month. I hadn't heard this band before but this is seriously good stuff although I think that they could have skipped the clean vocal part.

fallujah is great. I had tickets to go see them and black dahlia murder (on unhallowed) in May, but I'm going to be in portland and I'm going to miss it :<
never saw falljuah live and they seem like they're music would be very powerful/thick - much like a band like decapitated.

..

geryon released their first full length album. it's a drum and bass black metal project by the drummer and bassist from krallice. shit rips. colin marston from behold... the arctopus, gorguts, dysrhythmia, etc.. produced it, and it sounds like a heavier dysrhythmia with vocals

Elimination of that EP's a bit of an anthem 'round here.

Hail of Bullets: all their albums - similar enough to Bolt-Thrower.

I've spent the day listening to horror movie OSTs on youtube. The Fog and Phantasm have been favorites so far. I've fallen back into the vinyl marketplace, and I think there will be some movie soundtracks joining my collection... in addition to plenty of VGM, as it seems it's becoming fashionable to reprint old stuff on vinyl. Which is great, but... my wallet can't keep up.

Yoshinori Sunahara - Lovebeat
The best album ever made of anything Electronic Music wise. Corny title, but the entire album is amazing.

Saw them just a few years ago, for the first time actually, great live band, and their recent releases have been very good. MMXII is probably one of my favourite albums of theirs, in fact.

Yes, very good live. I still quite like Pandemonium from 1994 I think it was - been a while for me :)

I've been listening to my one of my usual playlists at work, Nightride FM II. Both I and II are great mixes that helped get me into retrowave/synthwave.
