Generally not my type of metal but I'm finding this album really enthralling. We will see if it opens my mind to other things.

Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
The first time I heard of Amy Winehouse was during the 2008 edition of Rock In Rio in Lisbon, when she came late and had trouble singing. Not a great first impression.
That being said, this was quite an eclectic and great album, she really had an amazing voice.

Farmer Boys - Born Again. Their ‚comeback‘ album after 14 years, and the band‘s still every bit as brilliant as they used to be. Really unique blend of metal, movie soundtracks and incredibly catchy pop melodies. Just saw them live yesterday, and it was one of the best shows I‘ve seen in years.

The Saints - (I'm) Stranded

Pioneering 1977 Australian punk effort, much feted, didn't disappoint. Holy fuck this is great. Dream record for Ramones/Heartbreakers fans. At times it almost recalls earlier Motorhead. Chainsawing bopping riff on cover of "Kissin' Cousins" is Bomber-esque. The covers are the standouts tbh, but when they're this great I don't give one good fuck. Image Yo even Motorhead's ST had a mean Train Kept a Rollin'. "River Deep Mountain High" has gotten a lot of play on the train and home alike this week. Whole record is solid though. Originals tend to be blunter and more insistent to fine contrasting effect. Typically filed under punk but as with the aforementioned two bands (and early MH), it's easily recommendable as feelgood rock n' roll with a bit more buzz.

Crowd at the start is good stuff, I'd GIF 'em if I wasn't so beat

Gonna blast this tomorrow when I can turn the volume up a bit. "Piranha" has a helluva catchy riff, don't think I ever got around to Exodus at all. Was wondering where the frontman was going with that song intro, haha. My money was on a shark!

Oh man, the new Deceased album rules. An absolutely perfect alchemical fusion between classic heavy metal and early thrashy death metal.

Had to translate the lyrics after listening to the song on tape in 7th grade French class.

Great stuff.

I just came across this a couple days ago, Dark Angel in late 1985. Probably the most intense show I've seen, that crowd!!

It's been way too long since I've listened to this. Probably my favorite guitar performance ever.

All of you fellow guitarists out there need to hear this. Unfuckwithable at every level.

New concept album for an imaginary Turrican 4 by Huelsbeck, featuring original Amiga tracks made with the same 3-voice limitations actual in-game tracks would have. The TFMX main theme is

WHile I've loved some Mercyful Fate and King Diamond albums dearly for a while now (I discovered both bands as a kid, my brother was a huge fan. so I grew up listening to them basically), I haven't checked out other records outside the landmark ones. SO I tried to remedy that this week and I listened to some more Mercyful Fate.

First good surprise : the 1993 LP In the Shadows is amazing. There are many highlights on the album for me. I love that they didn't try to "update" their sound here, which is what you want with these guys. Just do your classic thing and we'll enjoy :) The sound production is also amazing and right up my alley. The guitar sound, to me, is straight up orgasmic. crunchy in the hi-mids yet pretty warm and mellow in the bass. It's full but has some sparkle going on in these hi-mids... awesome.

This is gonna be a go-to old school metal album for me, from now on.

Earthists. - Dreamcasape
Metalcore done very well. This is very pleasing to my ears with loads of atmosphere and the one time they don't have vocals on a track, they kill it with their musicianship. They put out an album this year, but I've been having a hard time finding a Cd copy to buy not on Amazon. Tragic Hero Records is a horrible label that hasn't updated their site in forever, so that doesn't help.
