FALCOM Thread

Falcom rocks, and I think we need a thread for it.

The company has announced 2 games during the last week:

Sora no Kiseki Evolution (Vita)

Tokyo Xanadu

Also, the Steam release of Legend of heroes: Trails in the Sky SC has been delayed to april 2015 :(

Freeware Tactical RPG. Give it a try because it's awesome. Had lots of fun with it.

Despite the name in the title, it's not online at all.

All for it!

Interesting; a new Xanadu title! Curious to see how the modernized setting turns out compared to the fantasy setting of the past games. That artwork looks bleak, perhaps post-nuke? If so I think I found the game I've been waiting for. Still, I know I'm in for some goddamned rockin' tunes and the ARPG experience I love. <3

The underlying problem I've noticed with every Falcom game is that the difficulty is severely unbalanced between field/dungeon areas and boss fights. They seemingly always manage to have nonthreatening, easily manageable normal enemies contrasted with utterly overwhelming bosses. And you're always forced to grind on the easy enemies in each area for a long time before you can even consider trying to take on the bosses.

There are exceptions, like the optional dungeon areas in Ys VI PS2 filled with enemies that can one-shot you even with optimal levels and equipment. That part of the game was developed by Konami, though.

There sort of is one, isn't there?
I have purchased some of their games on Steam (pirated beforehand) lately, so, isn't it all cool right now?

Looks like we ARE getting Sen no Kiseki/Trails of Cold Steel.

Surprising when they've got 4 to go before this. Barring further delays, SnK SC comes out in April 2015. At least The 3rd won't be as massive of a translation. But then there are still Ao & Zero that need done (which we'll probably see for Vita & PC, since PSP is retired).
Kinect? KIN NOT.

My experience with Falcom is limited to the original Y's ono the SMS. I liked it well enough as it was one of the first action RPG's I played.

Palace of Destruction on the Turbo version though? Thank you Mr. Koshiro.
My lord, I have come for you.

First Trails in the Sky on PC, now a remake on Vita?

Oh damn I should have put XSEED on the buckets maybe? Or is Falcom the cow, XSEED the man, and Trails is the milk? The analogy got away from me a bit ...

Edit: On second thought, maybe we're the cow, Falcom is the man and money is in the buckets?

The downloadable English release of Brandish PSP is out in the US. Sticking with my JP UMD copy, because Wyrdwad's intensely dorky, Woolsey-esque translations annoy me to no end.

I'm a new big fan of Falcon (thank you XSEED!), due to PSP Ys 1&2 + Trails in the Sky. Only problem with loving them is, yeah. How many of their games in English? I'm still waiting on Trails 2 thanks to how amazing it was + the unbelieveable cliffhanger. As in, no way would I of played it if I would of known there'd be one and one that insane... wait, is Trails 2 out yet? It better not have been canceled. >_<

But, sure. Falcom rocks. But the problem is how fast can XSEED translate their butt kick games? Not fast enough nor all of them. So maybe I was better off without knowing of them?

Ys Origin sold 200k+ copies on Steam, so I'm sure XSeed will be looking to translate any and every Falcom game they possibly can going forward.

Romancia (FC), Ys IV: Mask of the Sun (SFC; patch got a big update with the release of Ys V), Brandish 2 (SFC; not Expert), and now Ys V (SFC; also not Expert) have fan translations. There's also a fan translation of Ys I & II Complete, but supposedly Chronicle is strictly better.

Early PC entries of both Vantage Master and Lord Monarch were released completely for free in both Japanese and English.

I'm a bit out of the loop as I have been busy but I am worried about Tokyo Xanadu possibly being a sort of mobile mmo or such monstrosity, according to what I read on NeoFaf. I don't usually trust big forums when dealing with niche games but there seems to be a few posters there that are knowledgeable regarding Falcom games.

I'm following the Nayuta translation closely, and looking forward to finally playing in earnest. Got the UMD dusted off and dumped. This one's moving along at a rocket pace. Watching it like a hawk.

Good to hear about Trails SC.

Ys 1+2, Oath in Felghana, and Origins are now on GOG, and currently a few bucks off.

EDIT: Apparently they're all up on the Humble Store too.

I just wish Falcom would start developing for PC again, and that the Zwei 2 translation project would hurry up and be finished.

Doubt they'll develop anything for PC again, Falcom's tasted the blood that is Japanese handheld game sales and they aren't likely to give that up compared to the numbers they had on PC I'm sure :P

Is the Memories of Celcetta game a good jumping in point for Ys? I've always wanted to try these games out but haven't ever done so. Would like to be able to get a good taste of the series
