Just finished Mahoujin Guru Guru (2017). I've never seen the original, but this was pretty good. I was a little worried that the ending would be rushed when I got down to the last few episodes, but I was worried for no reason.

I'm enjoying Sumire 17-Sai a bunch. Funny manga about a cheerful highschool girl that's obviously just a really dedicated old guy with a puppet. He never breaks character.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Oh yeah, I remember reading some of the initial chapters. Ridiculous as hell, but funny indeed.

I've been enjoying the Yurucamp manga way more than I expected. Checked it out because the anime is all right I guess (only seen one episode so far, haven't been able to gather my mates to watch more) but the manga has me hooked. I like the drawing style, I don't mind the character designs (and like quite a few) and the humour is on point. In a way it's a stylistically odd choice for a manga about camping and enjoying the scenery because while the characters and objects are well represented, the scenery is a slightly more loose and abstract affair. It certainly isn't nature porn like other manga can be and that is basically the only bad thing I can say about it.

If it gets licensed I really want to pick it up. Still withholding judgement on the anime.
Speaking of licences, really glad that Seven Seas picked up Tomo-chan Is a Girl! - been enjoying scans of it for a while so this is good news for me. There's not enough yankee tomboys in this world  Although I wish we could return to that bit in the manga, as it's more focused on romcom now. But that was the original focus so I guess it's fine

Also looking forward to the anime adaption of Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii. I like otaku-centric stuff in general but really appreciate the more seinen romcom angle this has going on. Also love the drawing style for this one (it's gentle and non-cluttered) and again, the comedy just works really well for me. This also recently got licensed as well so, good times.

Hopefully both Tomo-chan and "Otakoi" (as they decided to call it) will make it to the one import store where I usually get my import manga fix. The idea of having to start importing manga as well is not so pleasant. I already paid around $50 in import taxes last month thanks to a RightStuf and CDJapan purchase, so that sort of added cost easily piles up if unlucky.

I still want to pick up Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamers now that there's a sale on RightStuf. They had a sale on Gundam Unicorn as well. Not sure what to do yet.

Edit: Ordered Beautiful Dreamers and vol. 1 of Yurucamp/Laid Back Camp - had no idea that was even licensed! I think I've got enough Gundam on my plate for a while now with Char's Counter-Attack, 0080: War in the Pocket, Turn-A and Origins vol 1-4 just sitting here, not counting 08th MS Team and 0083 that I've seen prior to getting the BDs but not seen the BDs of.

Vinland Saga Manga Gets TV Anime by Wit Studio

An official website and Twitter account launched on Monday to reveal that Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga manga is getting a television anime adaptation by Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, The Ancient Magus' Bride). Anime production company Twin Engine began streaming a promotional video for the series.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rwiua0hXOVo

The anime will air on television and stream exclusively on Amazon Prime both in Japan and overseas.

Kodansha Comics released the manga's ninth omnibus volume, which includes volumes 17 and 18, on June 27. The company describes the story:

Thorfinn is son to one of the Vikings' greatest warriors, but when his father is killed in battle by the mercenary leader Askeladd, he swears to have his revenge. Thorfinn joins Askeladd's band in order to challenge him to a duel, and ends up caught in the middle of a war for the crown of England. From the creator of the classic Planetes manga comes this epic, highly-anticipated tale.

Yukimura launched the series in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2005, but Kodansha moved the series to Afternoon later that year. Kodansha published the manga's 20th compiled book volume on November 22. The series has more than 5 million copies in print. The manga received the Best General Manga award in Kodansha's 36th Annual Manga Awards in 2012. The series won the Grand Prize in the manga division in the Ministry of Cultural Affairs' 13th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2009.

Kodansha Comics began publishing the series in North America in 2013, and the 10th omnibus volume will ship on June 5. Kodansha Comics had reported in 2015 that it could stop its English release of the manga after the seventh omnibus volume. The publisher explained at the time that it hopes that it will "be able to license the next arc, but it's up in the air at the moment." The company then told ANN in 2016, "we are not adding any further volumes after Book Eight to our schedule at this time."

Are you shittin' me? :o

Well, they don't really have much even remotelty decent ongoing mango material to turn into animu at the moment so...yeh kind of logical if they don't want to end up unemployed.

Reminds me I was surpsied to see Kokkoku get an anime, the thing was rather confidential and already several years old.

Starved, really starved studios.

PS: what has become of the project for Golden Kamui ?

Oh shit, that thing was hilarious as hell, thanks for the heads up.

EWWWWWWWW WIT, this is gonna be cringy and edgy for no good reason like shitgeki.

On the good news side, Mappa is doing a new adaptation of Tezuka's Dororo (teaser), and Ikuhara's new project (Sarazanmai) has been announced a few weeks ago. Glad to see they finally dropped all those fujoshi bait and shonen things they've been doing lately.

Golden Kamui's anime will be directed by a guy who never did any good action series, brace for impact guys.

Watched Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari. It was super adorable, and I loved every moment of it but
Spoiler
the ending is bittersweet. You think it's gearing towards a happily ever after but it's not. It's not like anybody dies, but it's still really sad. For some reason the MC isn't sad about it though...
Hopefully the next item on my list isn't like that.

Had to find something a little brighter, so I watched Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai. Although the premise is tragic, it's pretty good overall with its ups and downs feeling natural. Even though the anime ends at episode 12, there are three more episodes after that. If you're not big of fan service you don't really need to watch 13 (which isn't so bad) or 14, but 15 brings the anime to a satisfying close. Also I could swear I've seen that pink haired girl in episode 14 before. Was she a cameo from somewhere or am I just confused because other anime have a lot of pink haired protagonists?

Been back to watching this and Ranma 1/2 off and on. I was able to acquire the first City Hunter series for a fair price so I'll be starting that soon as well. Already went through all the tv specials/oavs which were all still pretty cheap on dvd.

The drama in Hana Yori Dango makes me laugh more than anything usually. But that

Serial Experiments Lain I'm sure everyone here has seen it, but it has been a long while for me. I haven't seen blu rays, so last night it was a good excuse to be lazy and watch a few episodes. Still as messed up a show as I remember it from my childhood.

Yeah it's pretty great. I'll be picking up Marmalade Boy from discotek once it's out on SD BD (got delayed as they are working on compatibility issues). And I hope they get Himagure Orange Road.

For all you fellow physical release anime collectors, the Gunsmith Cats BD kickstarter is live: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ma ... ve-edition

I put down for premium + a goodie. Given the quality of their previous BDs I fully expect this to be done right and excellent in terms of av quality.

I know I'm posting alot, but I just saw Sakasama no Patema and it's a fantastic movie. It's about two societies, one with inverted gravity, and one normal, and a girl and boy from each society meet.

I heard of that series and it does sound interesting, too bad there are not transtlations of the ten volumes in the web, just a couple of raws and the rest on P2P servers.
I wonder if its because it was under the radar for many teams or there are some publishing's legal issues about the releases, although I believe the former reason to be more plausible.

Regarding the things I read and watch, when I don't go to hentai sites to get the log jogging, I watched few stuff such as Lupin The 3rd's movies directed by Takeshi Koike:

The Gravestone of Daisuke Jigen - Lupin and Jigen ended up against a smart and skilled assassin with the hobby of robotics and tombstones (which he createds for the people he kills), getting involved in a politically heat between "Not-West Germany" and "Not-East-Germany" during an heist.

The Blood Spray of Goemon Ishikawa - Goemon is determined to kill the assassin behind the death of his mafia's boss, but is not easy when an axe-dual weilder Bud Spencer on steroids is your opponent.

Despite some "click-bate" strategies used to market the movies,
Spoiler
(such as Jigen's false death and Mamo's involvement)
it was a good watch. Classy, hardboiled and violent like the original comic book version, moreso in the Goemon movie with some nasty disembowelments you don't see often on the japanese telly.

I'm glad they decided to return to the origins after countless of unconsistent lukewarm TV Specials in these decades, with the Conan VS Lupin movie being the cherry on top of the shit cake. Although, I wonder how the fifth TV series will end up, as I still have to watch the fourth one which I missed when it aired in Italy.

Watched Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars and thought it was a waste of my time. In retrospect I should have given the old animation a shot. (Which was made ten years before the Paul Verhoeven film existed.)

Having a bit of fatigue at how homogenous Japanese illustrated media is. That's one of the things I really liked about Grimgar - the water color backgrounds. Some have complained it clashes since the animated cells aren't paintings too - it is too bad we don't live in that perfect world where we can have moving paintings. Or depth. Or even things that are drawn as hell, like Berserk or to a lesser extent a Goblin Slayer.

Maybe when we've developed the AI to make that feasible.

Huh, had not heard of that OAV before. I'll have to give it a go.

If you haven't seen it already check out Roughnecks. The CGI is pretty dated at this point but otherwise it was solid.

It's been fansubbed now. And the Youtube video has been removed, it seems.

I'm biased as fuck since I've watched the original OVA series three times now and it's easily my favorite anime series of all time. But this wasn't quite as bad as I feared. Sure, the character designs are really plain and generic - especially Kircheis, it's like he has no facial features whatsoever, barely even a nose. Merkatz looks 20-30 years younger than he should be. However, the space battle parts were pretty darn cool, I must say, there was more movement and it felt more dynamic than in the original series. But that's to be expected, with CGI they can do complex things far more easier than back in the late '80s/early '90s. Whether the new series can go past the pretty space battles into the realm where the original show really shines - the characters and the political intrigue - remains to be seen, so I'll keep watching.

I'm also curious to see how the new series will show common-place technology. Back when the original series was made Internet wasn't a common thing and while mobile phones existed, they were very different to what they are today. So those things didn't exist in oLOGH either. It'll be interesting to see what kind of projections about future technology we'll see here, there was already a hand-held holographic map that could be manipulated by just waving your hand over it. Granted, even the original books these series are based mostly eschew from describing any technology in any great detail. I don't think there's ever been any mention of how the ships traverse across vast distances in spaces, they just go there and that's it. But that stuff was never the point of the series in the first place.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

How are the books? Now that they've received a physical release I've been tempted. Love the show, just apprehensive with all the characters and politics via text.
