Interesting and plausible. Also the fact that the last episode wasn't directed by Oshii seems to support your theory, though I guess there's no way he would have been able to work on an OAV and a feature length movie at the same time.

Here's hoping the TV show lives up to the OAV....

Decided to give Made in Abyss a go after a buddy kept recommending it to me.
It's an interesting read, apart from the author routinely inserting their fetishes into it. The art's pretty nice, too. I'm not caught up yet, but I'm enjoying it so far.
The world and setting feel like something fleshed out after playing Etrian Odyssey so far, even down to the relationship the surface world has with the Abyss.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Saint Seiya - Saintia Sho's first episode is out. Character design looks like the one used by the late Shingo Araki in the original anime and the Hades OVAs. (RIP :( )
GONZO seems to be doing the main work, so animation quality will drop in the following episodes as expected. Looks better than Soul of Gold, at least.

Fuck, don't know how I missed Zillion coming out on Bluray, as well as Glass Mask, which I saw the other week. A pleasant surprise for my anachronistic self.

I actually went through all of Zillion but it took a while. By the end I was a bit tired of it. Great games on the SMS though.

Yeah, I watched part of the fansub years back. Definitely not the type of show I'd binge watch, but I dig. Plus I just got an Apple figurine so I feel like I need to go the distance.

It's got quite a few #MeToo moments. Stay gold, Japan.

Well shiet, looks like Xabungle, Ideon, and Dunbine are also coming soon to Bluray. Dunno if I glossed over someone already saying that, but there it is. Not huge on mech stuff, but I'll take it. Man, Nagai, Matsumoto, and new localization of Urusei Yatsura manga... what a time to be alive. Never figured I'd see the day.

Aura Battler Dunbine BD has been out for a bit. HOLY SHIT THOUGH XABUNGLE. Is that a US release? To Google!

Edit: Yep. SDBD from the Maiden Japan label (which is related to Sentai in some way).

I went to a party at Richard Garriot's back in the day. It was pretty nuts. He was dating a friend of a friend.

What about Maison Ikkoku? I timed all 96 episodes... took 2 fucking years. Great times though.

I would pay dumb money for US Maison Ikkoku BDs.

The Zillion release made me giggle: https://www.rightstufanime.com/Zillion-Blu-ray-DVD

Can't say it lacks style...

Yep, I couldn't stop talking about that when they announced. I am waiting to snap off a pre-order on that and Giant Robo BD.

@FinalBaton: Without saying anything of the source material, the KOR release will be real BDs, not SD on BD. I hope it turns out well.

Hyped!!!!

Also I see you're alllllllllll up in that anime thread over at blueray.com. you scoundrel !!!!!! (I checked the KOR blue ray teaser on YT and oh. my. damn. picture looks so sexy *drools* they kept the more natural/toned down/desaturated colours the way they are(contrary to some remasters who make ALL colours super saturated). Love what I'm seeing!

Yeah I think I made a few posts in that thread. I believe I literally made an account there to talk about that. Haven't logged on since as I am generally not one for massive forums.

I saw some stuff on twitter and it did look really good. I'll have to check that youtube video. Sounds like they are putting a lot of love and care into this one.

Sometimes you can only do so much of course and if anything BD can make some flaws in the animation more apparent. Cyborg 009 comes to mind.

May give this one an honest go. I had subtitled VHS copies way back in the day but it wasn't quite my cup of tea. What's curious about this one is that as of yet there seems to be no Japanese equivalent. How does that work? Is the US release funding the rescan?

I saw in that thread at blueray.com someone mentionned that the rescan was already done, for a japanese release. Although I haven't seen that release myself. Maybe it's upcoming(the jp HD release I mean)?

Also : I think I'm about to break down and order a counterfeit Macross : DYRL blue ray with english subs...

I don't usually buy bootlegs, but with fucking Harmony Gold in the picture, we won't get that on BD for awhile...

Actually I think their stronghold on the license in North America comes to term in 2021 or something? But I still cannot wait until then... it's no guarantee either that we'll get one quickly after the license becomes available for purchese, either

Thanks for sharing that link FB. I'd just torrent the Macross BD + Eng sub release unless you really want a disc. Also, is there an uncensored version out there yet? Iirc the Japanese BD release is censored. I'm waiting for another copy of the LD with English audio to pop up (I'd prefer JP audio and Eng subs but that doesn't exist) and I have stupid money set aside for it.

@GP: I have heard of it happening before but it is pretty rare considering how Japan is with their media.

Didn't know the BD of DYRL was censored! Thanks for the info. If I had a LD player I would def consider picking up the version you mentionned on LD. I wouldn't know what version(what cover art) to look out for though. Just out of curiosity : which one is it?

It's really expensive and basically impossible to find now. I think the last sale I know about ended at $150. I have eyes on eBay and YAJ and it almost never comes up. Most copies are in dungeons I would assume, or destroyed sadly.

But anyway: https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/16540/TL ... sh-Edition

Dorohedoro final chapter. Well it was a long, slow one. Pleasant but leaves a taste of under-exploited potential. Somehow the creepy-horror/comedy mashup that makes its originality along with its style, works yet holds it down at the same time, because the more serious aspects of the plot almost constantly slip away, dissolve in the longish lighthearted~randomish chapters, leaving you to wonder wtf this story is about and where it's going.
