I've just found this Contra artwork for sale on Yahoo Auctions. It was used for an MSX-FAN article.

The seller (who happens to be the illustrator himself) is auctioning some of his other work too, such as this painting of Daizinryu from Dairanger (aka Serpentera) he did for a magazine.

Jonny2x4, late thanks for the answer on Black Tiger. Any suggestions on games similar to it, rather than direct clones? (i.e. multi-screen platforms? Whatever the name). I feel like I only know a handful of arcade titles.
Chomsky, Buckminster Fuller, Yunus and Glass would have played Battle Garegga, for sure.

There aren't that many games similar to Black Tiger come to think of it. I'm sure you're probably well familiar with Rastan Saga by Taito. There's also that Willow arcade game by Capcom that had you switching back and forth between Willow himself and Val Kilmer (I don't remember his character's name in the movie). It even had in-game item shops.

Finally got a slimline PS2!

Now I can play Contra: Shattered Soldier right now, lets see if I would enjoyed it.

I just realized that I've never seen Willow in full. I've seen bits and pieces of it on TV, but I'm more familiar with the NES game than anything else.

After Kitten's post, I realised Assault Suit Leynos was in my catalogue and put aside today to play it.

What an awesome game, with one of the better final boss fights in recent memory.

For Sumez - I can't vouch for the content, but I know you dig RI:

Interesting. But it's 2 hours long. I never understood the idea of a podcast. Sooo much pointless fluff and improvisation, people talking as if they are on a radio show. I really want to hear it, but when will I ever realistically be able to put aside 2 hours to sit down and listen to two people talk about one of my favourite games? :(

I ran into these guys before though. Talked to one of them on Facebook as he "promoted" the episode they made about Ghouls n Ghosts. Made it around 15 minutes into that one. :3

Aww..that blows. I'm not much of a podcast guy myself, so I hear you on the time thing. If podcasts were like the first loop of a Psikyo game I'd be interested.

Anyways when I'm not playing Zero Ranger, which is brilliant, I'm playing The Messenger and enjoying it even more than my first play through. I've died around 15 - 20 times, but at this point in my first play through the number was around 300. I'm still finding new and creative ways to ninja through the stages. It's a joy.

Everyone on here should be playing. CAUSE I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT DAMMIT!

I kind of hate that a physical release for The Messenger has been announced, because if it hadn't, I'd probably have just bought it digitally and play it now.

Hah. Oh I love it now for sure.
The thing is I was done after I extracted the 1cc and made the video, so I thought i'd stop playing.
But then I started playing for fun anyway, which surprised me. It's so short you can just slam out a playthrough in 20 minutes.. so I did that nearly every day.

Genesis of this thread tbh. Image Oh hey this thing's short and tough yet flexible! Enough dick joke! RANDOM MEMORISER is like BAR OF PIG IRON. Hard, brittle! Get good, apply pressure, fucking thing cracks! Gee, thanks a lot, asshole!

NG1 and ilk are like STEEL GIRDER Image

At first, is hard and cold! Bang head against, bloody nose, much Edmans! But in fires of time + practice, it prove surprisingly malleable and adaptive to player technique. But still tough!

A game and thread forged in the incendiary heat of angry gay sounds.

Unless you're talking about the 2600 version, though even that one isn't completely bad. NES Burgertime does have some heavy slowdown in areas, though. That's also that odd semi-official version on that ghetto VG Pocket Caplet thing that also had slowdown in places.

I'm not saying anything anyone here isn't already aware of - but gaming threads on non-gaming forums are fucking lame.

Everyone is always playing the same AAA bullshit. Except one guy - when asked for his favorite story in a game his response was Bad Dudes.
