UK television personality Bruce Forsyth has died at 89. Good run, and he always seemed like a fine chap. Loved his Have I Got News For You appearance opposite Ross Noble. I'll give you an eye exam!

Please Brucey don't turn out to be a secret perv like seemingly every beloved UK TV codger. I don't think you were, honestly, but after Rolf Harris I'm just hedgin' me bets, like. 3;

He certainly had his hands full with Miss World(s). Not a bad innings at all.

Used to watch all his movies when I was a little kid, afternoon TV matinees and whatnot. Great actor.

Tobe Hooper is dead. He made it to 74 which isn't that old these days. I guess he will be remembered for Texas Chain Saw Massacre but he made a load if interesting films. I really like Salems Lot and Funhouse.

Always a reassuring name to see on a horror flick. Chainsaw is almost certainly his masterpiece and a classic movie besides, but his filmography is full of gruesome, practical effects-laden fun. Including perhaps the ultimate horror boobsploitation, Life Force. :cool:

Having re-read Salem's Lot fairly recently, I actually prefer Hooper's TV adaptation. Not sure how involved he was in remodeling Barlow from a stock Lugosi-esque into yowling, James Mason-heralded death n' disease incarnate. But I dig it.

Tobe was an interesting director, with a pretty diverse canon behind him. And at one point, Cannon behind him, which made for quite the departure of sensibilities. Bless Lifeforce for its goodness, hail Massacre for its greatness, and high-five its sequel for bratpackness.

Nothing for Poltergeist though because someone else directed it while he was trippin on acid.

No more Carl in Twin Peaks =( I was thinking to myself it was amazing that he was able to come back and (frankly) do so much in Twin Peaks at his age. He recently completed a movie with Lynch's son too. I had almost thought he was going to live another 10 years or something. :cry:

He was a great character actor.

Harry Dean... that's a bad one. He was great in Twin Peaks. Well, he was great in everything. He's in Alien for fucks sake! I'm going to watch Straight Time in his memory.

Grant Hart, drummer of Husker Du passed away on Thursday. Some very accomplished solo material too, an underappreciated gem.

Shoulda just reposted the link without comment, the nonchalant symmetry with your prior exchange might've brought minor lols to a very trying thread. 3;

Stanislav Petrov, soviet officer who prevented a retaliatory nuclear strike by the USSR after correctly calling a false alarm on a detected missile launch coming from the USA (right in the middle of the Cold War), and thus avoiding a possible WWIII, has been reported today to have died in May 19 of this year.
