He’s a bit of a procrastinator. I didn’t even go to Anime NYC this year either.

Things are just getting interesting and this guy chooses now of all times to end it all? Can't relate, bro. That sucks.

People are complicated.

Whether we like it or not, it's a choice we all have, and there's no way for anyone to tell anyone else that it's wrong.

Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

An old friend of mine, at last count 15 years ago, had been to 700 ska shows. She had seen The Specials dozens of times.

Always loved this cut:

You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

I actually sometimes say OH ANGELO! to myself.

I imagine David Lynch does too while he's banging whatever french model he has shoehorned into his latest film

I'm very sad to learn this, I knew him. First met at an UK arcade meetup many years ago (20 now I think?) and at the time I didn't know who he was. I was playing Defender and he was watching me fail rather badly, I moved out of the way so he could play and said "I always preferred Dropzone on the Atari". It must have seemed like a real suckup attempt - he programmed it. Felt very sheepish at the pub later. A true gent.

Great story. Despite growing up on the other side of the pond with a NES and not much else, I always recognised his name from the English mags I'd take home from family visits.

So when is the book coming out? Do you speak The Queen's? (Is it called The King's now?) So many questions...

It's nothing special really; just the usual story of struggling former colonies getting Mate's Rates on British teachers. It was actually my old man with the jungle fever, leaving rainy Manchester in search of broads like the ones on his Motown LPs - my mom's brother flew the coop for White Wimmenzburg (on the corner of Guns n' Ammo BLVD and Triple Cheeseburger Ave) the first chance he got. You always want what you don't got, I suppose.

Your life in the holy land is a lot cooler, wish I'd had that kind of ambition. NTSC-U/C stuff alone seemed like unattainable riches back then, WTF were we thinking.

Does come in handy as a pop-cultural yardstick, though - particularly TEH CHOONZ. If we heard it in our sleepy Jamaican farming parish, with its godawful Church-regulated radio, it was probably a big deal! (nothin' harder than Hootie; I was a 12y/o metalhead off that same uncle's Sab/Purple/Zep stash, who didn't know who Metallica were ca 1994 - now that's some oldschool theocracy / comms blackout :o)

It does make for an entertaining topic - especially when I meet people a generation younger than I and explain I spent 15 years in such a weird place. I'm actually in Tokyo now spending Christmas with mini me. Still don't want to live here. Not sure if that will ever change. The Tokyo I fell in love with originally is gone... and the two I fell in love with after that are as well gone. I'm not digging this new one as much. I'll still come back 2-3 times a year though, and that works for me.

As good a time as any to watch Pistol on Disney+
Not usually a fan of biopics, but out of anyone who could have directed one about Sex Pistols, Danny Boyle was probably the best possible option. It's fantastic.

I think there's no need for that anymore, as probably one of the mods even updated the first post to remove the "accepting tragedies from (year)" as to just make it a general topic without the year part included.

NTSC-J posted his explanation on that a couple pages back. Understandably nobody really had the stomach of making a game out of guessing who's going to die.

Closest we get is my continued bafflement at Bob Barker's longevity. Or my observation that Dick Cheney is immortal and will be the first to get the Dick Cheney Immortality Serum.
